Ed Cowan definite comes here in our wheel of non-Warner and Rogers openers, especially when the Watson at 3/4 experiment was going on. Scored slowly but was more dependable than some of the spuds we've had since.

Has Michael DiVenuto been mentioned already? Was part of Australia's revamp-the-ODI-side project in 1997 when the likes of Taylor and Healy were on the way out and was supposed to be the big-hitting left handed complement to Mark Waugh at the top. Can remember him playing a couple of good innings, but once new captain Steve Waugh decided to experiment with Gilchrist as opener, that was it.

Joginder Sharma

Ordinary medium paced bowling allrounder who played just 4 ODIs and 4 T20Is for India, but bowled that over in the 2007 WT20 final and gave birth to the IPL

Feels like he played more than he really did - his 4 ODIs were spread around 3 years, and he never played after that T20 WC. Was just 24 when he was discarded too.

He was unintentionally funny too, in the Australia game (or the pakistani one?) he took a catch and instead of celebrating threw the ball back at Dhoni as hard as he could confusing the **** out of everyone in the team and the viewers.

Hope not mentioned earlier: Peter George
1st wicket was Tendulkar
He was on over 200 though lol.

Hilfenhaus, Bad Mitch Johnson, Peter George, Hauritz and Watson is the worst attack I can remember seeing Australia field at home.

EDIT: Oh actually it wasn't at home. I remember George's Test being at home for some reason.

Starc, Hastings, Watson, Johnson, Lyon in 2012 SA series perth test was bad. Starc took the worst 6fer I've ever seen and Hastings was 90s india pacer bad.

Dunno if they played enough to qualify as guys. I think Mohit Sharma was a guy. Had a decent world cup then disappeared.
i think i think karn sharma played a lot more than he did only because i really loved that adelaide test match where he played, and as such he occupies a much greater slice of my cricketing memory than he probably warrants

All 3 of those guys came in their first game of the series after Siddle, Hilfenhaus & Pattinson were all injured the previous Test

not that the former attack was much better mind

We also had Doug Bollinger making regular appearances around that time. A dark time for Australian bowling when Ryan Harris was injured and Johnson was bad

Has to be a guy. I remember him fondly but his record with bat and ball in all formats is weak. I like it how his last game was the below, where as an all-rounder he managed to neither bat nor bowl in an NZ Master's XI - and turned up looking 50 years older than his playing days with a face that suggested he'd been chugging red wine every hour since then.
Thomson was batsman of the season in 93/94 when Crowe was out injured, but didn't really recapture those heights. He was pretty much my favourite player as my grandmother somehow knew him and he always dominated at Blake Park in the Mount. NZ cricket in the 90's had a lot of 'guys'. Mark Priest, Blair Hartland, Blair Pocock, Darren Murray, Robert Kennedy, Craig Spearman...

I don't know if he's been mentioned but I remember that 93/94 season Vinod Kambli toured with the Indian side with a test average in the high 80's and a massive reputation (had featured in a huge school partnership with Tendulkar). He seemed to fall out of favor though. Not sure if he qualifies as a 'guy'.
