Legends Beach Cricket series

Coming soon, according to an article I saw today, a seris of six-a-side matches between teams comprised of retired greats from Australia, West Indies and England. The matches will be 'friendly, but serious enough that I'll have a go if someone gets under my skin" according to Thommo.

The teams I saw mentioned were (squads from which six a game will be picked) included:
Australia:
Dennis Lillee, Jeff Thompson, Border, Mark Waugh, Kim Hughes, Damien Fleming, Dean Jones
West Indies:
Curtley Ambrose, Joel Garner, Richie Richardson, Jimmy Adams, Phil Simmons, Desmond Haynes
England:
Graham Gooch, Mark Ramprakash, Graeme Hick, Adam Hollioake, Darren Gough, and I forget the rest.

the series of matche will be played on a beach, on special matting, with a ball that will be 'fixed' to ensure it swings (weighted I think).

Should be a bit of a laugh, but nice to see these guys run around again as well.

Sounds like it could be a bit of a laugh. Do you have a link to the article? Or was it a newspaper/ magazine article?

Fresh legs.

I don't have a link - I'll have a look later. Apparently Thommo looked a bit stiff, Deano hit some big hits, and Mark Waugh, of course, looked completely unruffled and effortless clipping shots off his hip over the fence! :)

Wouldn't it be cool if any of this got televised? Unlikely, I suppose - but they could do it up like some of the old testimonial matches, with cameras on the helmets, mikes, etc. Sounds like it'd be really entertaining.

I think a huge amount of people would watch it, better than a contrived Twenty20 event..

Think of legends games and the crowds they could draw.. The best game this season that I've seen was a friendly, the Lashings XI with the likes of Chris Lewis, Aravinda de Silva, not to mention Ajit Agarkar playing..

Reckon that we'll see highlights on "The Cricket Show"?

That'd work for me. If they can squeeze it in between Simon licking his big, moist lips, and Richie looking completely befuddled...

Ever used the word 'befuddled' to sledge the opposition batsmen in cricket? It works wonders!

LOL @ Deano saying Ambrose's sweat bands are coming off.

Im a bit stunned that Kim Hughes has been offered the opportunity to play. Didnt think he was in anyones good books. I guess im even more surprised that he accepted the offer considering who he will be playing along with. Lillie and he never hit it off and thomo apparently was always cold to him aswell. Perhaps hes taken it as an olive branch. Whatever the case it should be exceedingly good fun to watch if its televised. 8-)

No.

I've always hated these types of 'former greats' games.

Totally lack intensity.

Never enjoyed one of them.

P.S Sorry for sounding like Marc7178 (or whatever his name is).

It's on a freakin' beach. Of course it'll lack intensity.

Heard that on the news last night and I could have sworn he said his "sweatpants are coming off."

Can't believe they're actually doing this. Sounds like a bit of fun, would love to see Mark Waugh slapping them around.
