lara vs tendulkar

Why does it matter so much who is the better batsman? Both are legends of their time and of their countries cricket if not the world's. I don't see any benefit in picking one of Lara or Tendulkar. Now Ponting and Hayden... that's a different matter...

Here's an interesting comparison. Who would you rate higher, Viv Richards or Lara?

To the dismay of many, I'd say Lara.

I've got a lot of stats to back it up, but couldn't be bothered to post them now.

I'm afraid I would go for Viv here. must be my age showing.
no marc. age has nothing to do with it. there is no choice. it has to be viv.

Lara vs Tendulkar = to tough to call.

They're unbelieveably talented in different ways and a comparison seems a bit specious. Tendulkar is the ultimate technician whereas Lara is the ultimate stylist.

If they were artists, Tendulkar would be able to give you a perfect redering of the most beautiful scene with every intricate detail exquisitely rendered whereas Lara would draw the scene, kick down the canvass, urinate on it and say he's making a point about human destruction of the environment.
Lol! I don't know what to say, whether to applaud that post or insert a smiley similar to this

I'll applaud it ;) They're IMO the two best batsman in recent times, I just love watching them like no other.

When Sir. Viv strolled out onto the field, he caused that sinking feeling in the fielding side. Especially the bowlers - is today their day for humiliation? Many autobiographies of captains and bowlers said the same. The man caused a panic. This cannot be said for the Laras and Tendulkars of today. These guys play one good innings in 15.

I'm sure we've had that scenario in here! Except for killjoy, read ginger!
Eh?
Think you've got me and Neil mixed-up here.
Or was that my two-month absence showing? You weren't insulting me in my absence?

I'd personally say there wasn't much difference, either - if anything Richards was slightly better IMO, but not by very far.
Neither of them are close to Everton Weekes, Garfield Sobers or Clyde Walcott and it almost goes without saying that George Headley was miles better.
All in my estimation, of course.

I personally feel Richards was clearly better than Lara and Tendulkar. I have not seen any of the others exceot Sobers and he was head and shoulders above any batsman I ever saw and I have been watchng test matches for over forty years.

I am sure George Headley was the closest anyone ever got to the Don. I add like you, it is an opinion based on all that I have read and studied over the years.

Lara slightly over tendulkar for me, 2 or so years ago I would have said tendulkar.

On Sir Viv, I never remember him wearing a helmet. Did he ever??
