KP rips into Ramps

Norwood's on Fire
Yeah but again, there's a bit of a difference in my mind between not getting along with someone (it was fairly common knowledge that Warne and Gilchrist were pretty different sorts of people, for example) and actually criticising someone as a player by suggesting that they are mentally weak. I just see it as having only negative consequences for the team. You don't have to be best friends but you should be encouraging one another to play good cricket.

By all means, be honest and avoid bull****ting to the media, but is it really necessary to have a go at someone you might be playing with?
Just say that you aren't interested in speculating on the issue and move on.
Again, when these comments were made Ramps' chances of ever playing again had gone from highly unlikely to zero, as such I find that to be a moot point, personally.

How about professional respect? Not as if Ramps isn't trying his damndest, training hard, etc. Suspect KP might be susceptible to a bit of a public whinge when he's in a form slump and people are questioning him and his batting. He'd probably be hoping for a bit of leeway in that situation but he's just guaranteed he'll be absolutely fair game now. This is aside from the possible negative team morale consequences associated with bagging a bloke publicly. Just hope he realises he's treading a fine line.

That's probably more to the point why KP's comments lack class. If he was trying to fire him up with a bit of a public roasting, maybe they'd be a bit defensible. But they lack any practical value, especially in light of the fact Ramps won't play with him for England now and probably wasn't ever going to. Comes across as kicking a bloke who's down and strongly suspect it'll come back to bite himon the bum in the years to come.

Was pretty much my exact thought having read thread-title and then the quote. Honestly, some people know how to write a headline. 8-)

As to the subject (a rather tired one, must be said)... I was never as convinced as some people were that Ramprakash's temperamental flaws had changed - I've said it hundreds of times, but it's not like his domestic form was poor from 2005 backwards, he wasn't doing anything in 2006 and 2007 other than going from excellent to superlative. Everything hinged on whether his temperament had altered. I wasn't sure it had, didn't see any reason to suspect it had based on his 2006 and 2007 form, and it seems the 99-to-100 course of 2008 has caused many others to think the same.
Didn't you think he should have been called back into the England squad at some stage, or was that someone else?

Yeah look, they are all fair points. Not defending what KP said, I just don't think the criticising someone who could soon be your team-mate point is a valid one. There are other reasons why he shouldn't have said what he did, for sure.

I must admit that there have been times in the past where I have thoguht he shouldn't have said certain things about actual team-mates, such as "at the end of the day you'd never find me messing around drunk in a pedalo"

I was never in favour of it, because I didn't think there was enough evidence that his temperamental flaws had changed. However, I was against the idea that the reason he shouldn't have been recalled was because he was 38 years of age, which was perported by some.

AWTA, such comments lack class, they might come across as a frank comments, but seriously being a cricketer himself KP should show more respect to other cricketers too, Ramprakash may not be as naturally talented as he is, but that doesn't mean he is working with any less intensity as compared to any other cricketer, and really he didn't deserved KP letting him know publicly that he lacks character to do well under pressure.

Erm, KP was asked a question by a Wisden Magazine reader, and he answered it honestly.

Nothing to see here folks.
