He's not joined KKR as a player. He's apparently a 'strength trainer'. Not good enough to bag a player contract, so daddy gets him a paycheck as backroom staff.
Geez, bile much? Escape your notice he's a PT?

Combining the fact that he comes in reasonably low, plus he's a very good fieldsman, and there's value there as a Twenty20 player.
Not convincing enough to make it to the KKR team I am afraid.

Wait, GIJoe and Top Cat clarifies he is in as a PT. I don't think it is incredibly difficult to think that he wouldn't have made it into the KKR squad as a PT but for his father.

Yeah, I'm just venting :p Anyway, would he have landed this gig if his dad wasn't the coach? PT's are dime a dozen here.
Realistically, so what if he did? If not him, some long lost PT cousin of Ganguly would have gotten the job. Nepotism is everywhere. As long as he's qualified, not to worry.

Nepotism is one thing Ganguly can not be accused of.

ShahRukh should call his team as SRK KKR and not Kolkata KKR and also ask IPL to remove the word 'Indian' and change it to PPL (Personal/Private Premier League) or something, Then we will not criticize his team or his actions. As long as Mr. Khan continues to promote his team as part of INDIAN PL and Kolkata KR, people will have a right to question the actions of the owner of those teams.

Once again I am happy that Sunny Gavaskar is there in the media to speak for millions of Indian cricket fans. I fully agree with the questions raised by him in his column.

Not my point. I guess, it's that it wouldn't bother me if Ganguly did organise the job for a mate, as long as they're qualified.

I reckon nepotism gets given a bad rap sometimes, usually when the person is clearly inadequate for the job but keeps it. Sure it gives someone a helping hand but then, they have someone they know well/are related to who is now their boss so they have to care about their performance, as opposed to it just being any old job. Similarly, it puts the pressure on the person who helped them out to keep them in line or poor performance will reflect badly on them.

Sure it's open to abuse but then a lot of the time it's good at keeping everyone on the same page too. I'd rather see someone like Buck's son working his butt off for KKR to impress his Dad than J. Random PT who's doing it purely to boost his CV.

Sorry. But the nationalist in me chestthumps that an Indian just lost a rightful place in the team, due to nepotism.

So, you have a problem with Buck's son getting the job because he's his son (if that's what happened, no-one's sure anyway but it seems pretty likely) but you're a-okay with looking at the spot as rightfully for an Indian? Bit inconsistent don't ya think? They're both favouritism for reasons other than ability/quals.

Firstly, it was a tongue in cheek comment.

Secondly, we yet not know about the "credentials" of Buch Jnr so as to comment whether he deserved the place or not.

Thirdly, I prefer intranational nepotism to international nepotism. Atleast the buck stays in our country. Right?

Recognised that after posting. Bah, sorry. :)

Even if a qualified PT (which I believe he is, to Australian standards anyway), I would imagine there'd still be plenty of quetions about whether he deserved a spot.

Thirdly, I prefer intranational nepotism to international nepotism. Atleast the buck stays in our country. Right?
Fair enough. Myself, if there is to be favouritism, I prefer the family-based one to the nationalist one. We all have bias's I guess; yours is just wrong. haha

Come on dude, unless he's working without payment, he's doing it to boost his CV too.

SRK gets hate mail for decision on Ganguly

Thursday, April 23, 2009
DURBAN: Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday revealed that he has been receiving strange hate mails for stripping Sourav Ganguly of KKR captaincy.

"I get strange hate mails from people for taking decision for the team's sake," Shah Rukh said after KKR tasted their first win of second IPL against Kings XI Punjab.

"But that is okay, I'm saving them all so that I can go to each house and say (the KKR anthem) 'Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo' (I'll do it, fight and win)...," he added.

In a fervent plea to the Kolkatans to stay by the side of KKR, Shah Rukh said, "Along the way if we go wrong, please feel for us and send us positive energies."

Arguably the most hyped Indian Premier League franchisee, KKR has been in the news this year since coach John Buchanan floated the multiple-captain theory which many in Kolkata saw as yet another Australian ploy to strip local favourite Sourav Ganguly of captaincy.

Buchanan's idea was eventually shelved but Ganguly didn't retain his job either as KKR named Kiwi stumper Brendon McCullum as its new captain, a decision that did not go down well in Kolkata.

Shah Rukh said it was not easy pleasing people in Kolkata where emotions run high and admitted there was tremendous pressure on his side.

"We are under a lot of pressure. We are a hyped team because the owners are from film industry and because we have the most passionate city backing us," the Bollywood actor said.

"For good and bad, the Kolkatans love us one night and one night they do get angry with our decisions. But I promise you guys that the dream I have is to come to Kolkata with the IPL trophy and dance. Will do some new steps for Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo," he said.

Incidentally, Sourav Ganguly played a cameo role in Tuesday's win with two quick wickets even though he didn't get a chance to bat.

Shah Rukh took the occasion to pledge his support for Ganguly and said for him, the former India captain remained the greatest KKR player.

"I want him to be the Player of the Tournament this year. Whoever feels he is not given importance in the team, let me tell you that for me, he is the greatest Knight Riders player. He and (Chris) Gayle will compete for the 'Player of the Tournament' award," he said.

Don't complain Shahrukh, You have gotten plenty of love from fans. Only thing the fans expect is to be straightforward with them. Dont trick them. Dont humiliate their player and atleast dont say one thing and do the opposite and then pretend that you are fair.
