Yeah look it’s not defensible and sign of a terrible human being to do that stuff. Was it really all that surprising that 35 years ago, that’s what a visiting team to India would do? No. Is it fair to judge him on it now? I don’t think it is honestly. And I don’t think any team would do it now. But it’s pretty horrendous behavior for any human being.

Ikr. At bare minimum he should have been banned for a few years or so. I'm really glad more people are now aware of the atrocities committed by Australian cricketers. Other (less disgusting but equally nefarious) instances of repulsive behaviour such as cheating have been widely exposed by OS and others, but sadly some continue to defend the actions of their flawed heroes.

Just look at the last week, Pattinson banned for using a homophobic slur and Steve Smith with yet another transgression of the code. The situation doesn't seem to be getting any better.

The significant difference between Australian cricketer's transgressions and the transgressions of cricketers from some other nations is that when we transgress, we are trying to win the match.

The best thing about the Newlands scandal is the dismantling of the self created mythos of the Australian cricketer and the mutual **** fest it used to generate. It used to be that they would justify all sorts of poor behavior by saying “well we are allowed to say and do what we want because we play hard but fair. We get to decide on the boundaries because we play HARD BUT FAIR. AUSTRALIANISM!!”

Now it’s “well we only cheat to try to win”.
