I saw your post and then went onto cricinfo!! Its cool. Lets see what Dinesh Karthink can do now.V Reddy said:Karthik has indeed made it in !!!!!!!
There is only 1 Adam Gilchrist out of 12 wicketkeepers, which many experts, fans, mediapersons, cptains, coaches and selectors fail to realise. He is not just any wicketkeeper. He is a genuine all-rounder. Not all genuine all-rounders are wicketkeepers. Some may be batsmen (Kallis) or bowlers (Pollock, Klusener, Cairns). That is why, the Indians should look for a bowling all-rounder and not just a wicketkeeping all-rounder.Man Arjun, I think it's high time you realise that its imperative for a keeper to be a good batter. It's very necessary that the keeper is a very capable batter to be competitive in International cricket. Please stop mentioning Nayan Mongia again and again as if you are obsessed with him or something.
Parthiv Patel has been doing pretty well in tests IMO but in ODIs he just doesn't cut it. He can't score quickly and cannot hit the ball hard. If he is going to come in at #7 in ODIs, it's necessary that he should be a powerful striker of the ball which he isn't. Dinesh Karthik has had a great domestic season and I have only heard good things about him. He has more case of being in the Indian side than what Parthiv Patel did when he first made the side. IMO its time give Karthik a go.
i've supported him ever since the under 19 world cup, I wanted him to get an opportunity. Now that he does, well it depends on how he performs. If the pressure doesnt get to him, he'll play well. if it does, this'll be a sad story. and about the #3 thing, what i'm saying is to just give it a try. ganguly was willing to make patel open rite? so what's so risky about putting karthik at 3? all i'm saying is that we need someone who can carry on the run rate after the opening partnership breaks and karthik can do that. he plays best in bad situations. ganguly should come down to 5 or 6, dravid can be 4, then u have yuvraj and kaif. This way the top order can gamble because there are batsmen down in the order who are capable of a recovery. Karthik will get at least a couple of chances. There's no way we're playing three tournaments in a row without one batsmen getting injured.marc71178 said:If Karthik bats at 3 then a specialist bat is still at 7 which is crazy.
Of course it's one thing being selected la28, but what if he doesn't score a run all series and drops catches?
dont you reckon tendulkar and sehwag can fill in those other 10 overs though?? like pathan, agarkar, nehra, singh, and then 5 from sachin and 5 from sehwag??marc71178 said:Patel opened in Tests though?
All I'm saying is this lad has no International pedigree, so there's no way of guaranteeing he'll be the solution to the problem.
I also hope that his glovework is exceedingly good, or I cannot see a reasonable removing the gloves from Dravid and dropping a batsman.
Yeah I get what you're saying, but I'm one of those people who have never supported Laxman as a one-day player. He's my favorite test batsman, no doubt, but one-days arent his thing. In my opinion, he cant take singles and simply has "too much class for one-day cricket." Kaif should take over laxman's position. If this happens then Karthik will make a difference. You can tell by the way Dravid keeps that he hates it. However, Sourav Ganguly thinks different from me so yeah, they'll probably keep playing with 7 batsmen. At least we dont have to cry over losing a batsman when one gets injured because Karthik, if he can handle the pressure and play to his potential, is equal to a good batsman. Karthik will probably have to wait for someone to retire in order to get a permanent place in the playing 11.maxpower said:they dont show any intentions of dropping dravid from keeping, why would karthik's selection matter for ODI's. IND has been packing sides with 7 batsmen time and time again, and I dont see them going with full time 2 spinners and 3 full time pace bowlers at all. IND wants to out bat the opposition and they will not include 5 bowlers or drop a batsmen. At the most Karthik will get to play in one or two meaningless 1day's and he will be judged harsh on those performances, so good luck to karthik.
But the question is, will he get to play? There r just 2 matches if India don't make the final, I am pretty sure Karthik won't get a game barring injury or faliure by Kaif maybe..V Reddy said:Karthik has indeed made it in !!!!!!!
Actually delkap, the squad announced today will be playing not just for the holland cup but also for the natwest challenge and ICC Champions Trophy. So Karthik can debut if a batsman gets injured during all three of these tournaments.delkap said:But the question is, will he get to play? i really hope he plays a lot so we can get an ends to a means... and finally find out if this chum is any good.la28 said:Actually delkap, the squad announced today will be playing not just for the holland cup but also for the natwest challenge and ICC Champions Trophy. Well, thats actually good to hear that he will be given an extended run... as should be the case.. He'll probably be a definite for a game in ICC Champions Trophy (though not vs Pak, I think)...la28 said:Actually delkap, the squad announced today will be playing not just for the holland cup but also for the natwest challenge and ICC Champions Trophy.
