Gavaskar's record against the Windies is something else:

27 tests; 2749 runs @ 65.45; 13 100s, 7 50s; top score 236*

Bobby Peel's entire record (20 Tests) is against one side - Australia and it is a killer record all right

Code:
[B]Versus O M R W 5w 10w Best Avg S/R E/R[/B]
Australia 1073.3 444 1715 101 5 1 7/31 16.98 51.64 1.97
Same applies to Turner's entire career of 17 Tests.

Code:
[B]Versus O M R W 5w 10w Best Avg S/R E/R[/B]
England 1057.2 457 1670 101 11 2 7/43 16.53 51.44 1.93

Though we are moving well away from the criteria set in the OP, Turner's the other way is even better. 101 wickets at 16.53 in only 17 Tests, S/R 51.44 with 11 5-fers - again all against one country, England.

SM Gavaskar vs WI.
2749 runs in 27 tests averaging 65 with 13 tons (i.e. almost one every other match!)

vs the rest
7373 runs in 98 tests averaging 47 with 21 tons (i.e. once every 4.7 matches).

He averages 67 against SL, but he played only 7 tests and SL were just starting out.

Beaten to it..

Oh I am sorry. My mistake. I got carried away with Barnes :)

It's no wonder we won the Ashes this year; Dusty Miller clearly saves his best for the old enemy.

In 14 tests versus Oz the chairman's offies yielded 39 wickets @ just 21.94 & his only 5-for. All the more remarkable when his other 20 tests against non-criminal opposition brought him only a further 21 wickets @ 47.76!!

Ambrose's record against England is unique in so much that it was sustained over 34 Test matches. It is phenomenal and his record against Australia is so good that that needs a mention too.

Code:
	[B]England	Australia[/B]
[B]Tests[/B]	34	27
[B]Wickets[/B]	164	128
[B]5 fers[/B]	8	8
[B]Average[/B]	18.8	21.2

Murali has a great record period but his figures against Bangladesh are approached only by Barnes's figures against South Africa a century ago.

Code:
[B]Tests[/B]	11
[B]Wickets[/B]	89
[B]W/Test[/B]	8.1
[B]5 fers[/B]	11
[B]10 fers[/B]	4
[B]Average[/B]	13.4
[B]St Rate[/B]	30.5

I have always been amazed by the difference in Warne's performance against India and Pakistan. He has played almost the same number of matches against the two 14 India and 15 Pakistan but thats where the similarity ends.

He got just 3 wickets per Test (43) against India and twice as many, 6 per Test (90) against Pakistan.

He managed just 1 five wicket haul against India and never ever appraoched a 10 fer but got 6 5 fers and 2 ten fer against our western neighbours.

His wickets against India cost him a whopping 47.2 each. Pakistan sold them cheap at 20.2 !

The strike rate is so good against Pakistan at 45.0 and so terrible at 91.3 against India.

India was far and away the least favourite side of Warne to want to bowl to and no one, not even lowly Zimbabwe and Bangladesh gave him as good figures all round as India's cousins next door

Code:
[B]Against Pakistan	India[/B]
Tests 15 14
Wickets 90 43
Wkts/Test 6 3
5 fers 6 1
10 fers 2 0
Average 21.2 47.2
St Rate 45 91.3

Harbhajan Singh as a batsman:

vs Australia: In 14 tests, 393 runs at average of 22 including 4 fifties
vs Others* : In 59 tests, 886 runs at average of 14 including 2 fifties

(* excl Bangladesh, Zimbabwe he averages 35 against them, 246 in 7 tests with 1 fifty)

Between that, 2001 and taking out Ponting with quite a bit of alacrity (despite having had to share his bunny with Ishant the last 2 series) - Harbhajan vs Aus has to count as a killer record.

Actually, five - and he was run out for 90 in his next innings!
It was four against India if I am not mistaken - the first four innings of the Test series in India. He had started the sequence of five in the last innings of the series at home the previous season against England.

You're absolutely right. I forgot that the scores had to be against one team.

At the other end of the spectrum, which batsmen average over 50 vs the most teams and which bowler averages under 25 vs the most teams??
