Absolutely, he's shown in ODIs that he's one of the very best at it. Only the situation for doing it in a Test is pretty rare, especially as Hussey has tended to come in further down than Pietersen and needed to guard the tail and value his wicket. He's mighty good at that too.

One sort of gets the impression with Huss he'd bat where he had to, keep wicket and opening the bowling too if his side needed it.

With KP, not so much.

Can very well see Hussey carting an attack at over 90 if the situation demands it tbh, for an accumulator the guy is incredible at manufacturing runs and boundaries. Also one of the best I've seen at coming in and just hammering sixes straight away... if the situation demands it. Realise I'm talking more ODIs here but there is some overlap in the skillsets.
But Hussey has different "modes", he compartmentalises his game more. Whereas the big strokes and audaciousness of Pietersen is part of the parcel, in a T20 game or at 3/20 in a Test match.

Yup. More I think about it, this part of the game might lead me to taking Hussey over KP; not on pure batmanship.

I'd take Hussey any day of the week in any format bar IPL

Couple of test matches sum up KP for me

Adelaide in the last Ashes was a complete road and he cashed in to the tune of 200+

Next pitch at Perth was not so easy and he was woeful - no application and basically tried to whack a few runs before the inevitable loose shot brought about his demise

Guy is supremely talented but is also the quintessential publicity hungry mercenary who rarely extends himself unless everything is in his favour

For a second let us take away the variables like playing for the country, this bowler , that pitch, that format, blood on the cricket pitch yadda, yadda, yadda or blah blah and blah but just consider the thrill of watching somebody play exciting cricket..I think i would go for KP...Just my preference

Clearly you haven't seen Hussey's play in the semi finals of the last WT20.

In terms of pure natural talent you'd say Pietersen, but Hussey's performed better/made the most of his abilities. Hussey's also a more versatile and a better team player with no significant weakness comparable to Pietersen's problems against sla.

Touche.

But even so I don't think Pietersen would've been able to pull of an innings like that. Too much pressure.

Watching that hit the roof youtube clip, at the end he stated he wanted to open the batting for Australia in tests. (2005, just getting his chance for Australia) I know there's reasons not to do it, but if we continue to have woes and he still wants to....

He honestly wouldn't be such a bad option if Australia are just looking for someone to do it for a year or two but if they're looking long term having him lower down were he can rectify a bad situation or capitalise on a good one is a place where his experience can be best used.

Considering he opens the batting for Australia in ICC 2005, he should be batting right up there.

I'm pretty sure KP bats like a stupid dick in every important 2nd innings just to further piss Australians off....

Hussey and KP are completely different batsmen with different approaches to the game. I don't think this is a valid comparison.
