Umm, dunno where to put this, but KP has retired from limited overs, just when I thought he'd found a role opening:-O

Edit: damn ****ing beaten:ranting:

Is this a hissy fit or just to keep himself fit and fresh for tests and breaking all of the England batting records (to be beaten by Cook afterwards anyway)

He could earn a more than handy living for himself as a domestic T20 freelancer alongside his Test career. Given he hasn't been that good in the ODIs as of late, and T20 can be a format solely given to the younger guys, it's not a horrible decision IMO.

If it extends his Test career it's well worth it, IMO.

England news: Kevin Pietersen retires from one-day cricket | England Cricket News | ESPN Cricinfo

Thought it warranted its own thread as he's got a fair career to reflect on and obviously the impact of this decision extends beyond the WI series.
Apparently he wanted to pack in ODIs but continue with T20Is but was told where to get off. Odd timing considering how bad he was for so long and now he's turned the corner (finally) he seemingly doesn't fancy it anymore.
Would've thought he might've waited until after the SA series as well.

Apparently he wanted to retire from ODI's and not T20. But according to ECB rules you retire from one and you have to retire from the other.

The first English loss to the IPL i guees. Since his side qualified for the Champions League he would have been playing pretty much through to next January and I know he's been vocal about too much travel.

it was widely speculated after the last world cup that he was giving up 50 over cricket. It's more of a blow to england t20 chances than 50 over imo.

They should have let him carry on T20s, huge loss to the team. Would walk into any T20 side in the world.

Expecting a lot of criticism for the ECB over this decision, I think he should have been allowed to continue in T20s.

Surprised tstl. But read a good comment on cricinfo:
"Test matches plus IPL. Take care of the pocket - IPL, and the legacy - Test cricket. Say what you like about him, he's not daft!!

The so the ECB motto with regards to limited overs cricket is "You can't pick and choose". Shame as I enjoyed watching KP bat in those formats.

It's just one big power struggle imo.

Pietersen thinks he's the big man. the ecb are tired of all his bull****.

Pietersen will have to play well in tests now because if he does go through a bad spell it won't be long before england drop him imo as not being involved in ODI and T20 cricket won't help improve his loner tag, and the ecb are obviously tired of all his antics.

Can't believe KP will want to play much county cricket for surrey though. He never really loooks like he wants to be there. Yet he's contracted to surrey and so will have to play for them when ecb release him. Bumper crowds this year in the domestic t20 surely now with KP available.
