Kagiso Rabada stats: South Africa bowler takes 300th Test wicket, but how does he compare? - BBC Sport To me, I would still say he's behind Steyn and Donald in terms of quality. I think those bowlers did so much against the highest quality batters of their era. To me, Rabada is still very good, but has not had to play against too many real star studded lineups and on home surfaces that are often very conducive to seam/swing and plenty of bounce. Not knocking him, but in my opinion just behind those two genuine all time greats.

Obscene S/R. Haven't seen.much of him in Tests of late but he sure has the happy habit of picking up wkts even when not bowling so well. Also just about the most perfect fast bowling physique ever. He'd be nailed on for 700 wkts if he were English and in considerably fewer games than Anderson too.

Rabadas WPM - 4.74
Andersons WPM - 3.74
Both were 20 at debut so to make a fairish comparison of that… Anderson at Rabada’s age…

had surprisingly (?) only played 71 tests, compared to Rabada’s 66. South Africa’s played 76 tests in this timeframe, whilst England had played 120.

Rabada WPM 4.74
Anderson WPM 3.77

All in all Anderson missed 80 possible tests during his career, which is kinda insane. Longer than most player’s actual careers.

Yea Anderson missed nearly a third of the tests during his career. Makes his longevity a bit less impressive tbh.

Make a thread if Rabada's gonna take 500 wickets.
Well he’d need another 187 wickets so he’d need to play another ~40 tests (presuming his wpm stayed the same). SA is scheduled to play 20 more tests over the next 2 years and 4 months. So he probably needs to play roughly another 5-6 years at least which would make him about 35. Of course then the question is will he be bowling like Steyn was around that age, or like McGrath was.

Looking at the recent ATG pacers most made it to 35 at least, except Pollock (34) and Waqar (31). If he can stay injury free he’s got a good shot.

Anderson wasn't really a primary pick until the New Zealand away series in 2008, he was in and out of the team as well as having injuries, particularly in 2006. It should be also said he was somewhat inconsistent at that time, although it should be said that batting lineups were a good deal stronger in that era. Rabada has managed to get results all the way through, it should be said.
