Why are runs against B & Z not important? How do you know Root would've done well against them if he'd faced them?
uhhhh, because they're minnow countries who rarely/almost never won and whom everyone bashed? they were not at all test standard or on the level of any of the big 8 opposition, this list and the avarages say a lot


Even Marvin Attapattu is putting Bradman numbers against them, tf are they doing to Joe Root?

iirc Bangladesh was the only team to put peak Smith in his place

Going over Roots record in Aus, it's not just that he didn't score a ton, he hardly has a significant half century that played a key role in a game. Nor has he scored at his usual rate. It's really a sore spot on his resume.

you can only really make a significant half century when the rest of your team has even 1% chance of winning

I always think with Sanga that if you want to temper his raw average with considerations around opposition or favourable home schedules, you also need to give him a boost for the years where he kept wicket. Once he gave up the gloves in Tests, his batting went to another level.
