Wagner takes wickets on roads and in sunny conditions, doesn't get the new ball and wins unwinnable tests when the batsmen are in control. He's probably the best left armer since Wasim.
Oh you're serious

He's like the opposite of Anderson, been poor with non Kookaburra balls. He's a good bowler who's done very well at home and in SA and Australia which would maybe be enough if the rest of his record wasn't largely average-poor.

Indeed... It is like Ambrose and Walsh but a notch below. Ambrose was ATG. Walsh was great. Here, to me, Anderson is great. Broad is very good.
I think that's where the issue stems from though isn't it? I know you didn't mean to do it deliberately or think so, but Anderson and Walsh shouldn't be in the same tier of bowlers.

Anderson is a very, very good/great/whatever bowler. Walsh is a cut above that (maybe even two...) but is himself a level below the very top echelon of bowlers.

i actually do rate broad over anderson because you can take him anywhere in any conditions and he can bowl you a great spell.

anderson, barring a few notable performances, has been chris martin statistical tier with the kookaburra and there's an easily diagnosed reason - length. the adjustments he made around 2009 allowed him to become a more consistent bowler since he was harder to drive but if you want to swing the kookaburra you need to huck it really full.

look at two of the notable kookaburra skiddy swing bowlers of different tiers - steyn and boult. both bowl very full with the new ball at a controlled pace before increasing their speeds and pulling their length back with the older ball.

anderson since 2010 has been showing up in kookaburra nations bowling good length corridor from the first over which makes him a reliable workhorse but he's not going to run through sides doing that because he's too skiddy to get the lift needed to threaten batsmen bowling channel.

this MO actually increases his usefulness in australia - one look at trent boult in australia tells you all you need to know about skiddy swing bowlers trying to pitch it up at 135 clicks there - but renders him useless in nz and south africa because he's missing out on that crucial new ball swing and in nz especially you're wasting your time.

broad though, can bowl anywhere. he can be just as innocuous but unlike anderson there's no real reason broad wakes up in the morning and decides to bowl gentle medium pace instead of broad spells.
Anderson averages better in Australia and the UAE and significantly better in India, Sri Lanka and Windies, the only place Broad beats Anderson is New Zealand (28 vs 32) and SA (24 vs 34)

Anderson also just sort of looks better imo. Swings it miles both ways. If I only saw an over of each I'd come away thinking Anderson was better.
His action is a lot nicer to watch too.

RE 'Anderson can't bowl with a Kookaburra' are people really ignoring the fact he averages 20 in the UAE with them?

That's as bad as Nathan Lyon being labelled a GOAT.

The term should only be given to the absolute greatest of the greats - the Bradmans, Peles, Jordans, McCaws, Gretskys etc of this world.
Tbf Lyon got the GOAT label for being the greatest Australian off spinner of all time. His competition isn't very strong with those caveats.

I realise that about Lyon. It is as silly as calling Wagner the GOAT of left-arm 4th seamers though - making a judgement where there isn't much competition.

The funny thing is that Lyon started being called the GOAT across the Tasman about the same time McCaw was given the title here.

Lol the amount of junk posting in this thread is incredible

James Anderson is an absolute beast - an ATG fast bowler, who at 38 is remarkably getting BETTER
The guy is a complete bowler (yes in ALL conditions). He's a serious wicket-taking threat in England, and has the ability to bowl dry everywhere else
Imagine if say Dale Steyn was reading this thread, he'd be laughing and shaking his head at some of the nonsense that has been said

And over 32 each in the 5 other countries that use it. Other then his 6 UAE tests, impressive though they may be, he averages under 25 in England and WI ie the Dukes places and yeah over 32 in Aus, India SA, SL and NZ

The evidence is so clear that saying he's been very average with the Kookaburra is just fact

They don't use Dukes in the UAE? For some reason, I thought they did.
