Jaques/Rogers ?

I've changed my tune and no longer want Hussey opening. I like him in the middle, he can be aggressive or defensive and gives our team a safer but positive look at the same time.

I haven't made my mind up yet on Rogers or Jaques, slightly leaning to Rogers but this is the team I would like to see.

1 jaques/rogers
2 hayden
3 ponting
4 hussey
5 clarke
6 hodge
7 gilchrist
8 lee
9 clark
10 hilfenhaus
11 macgill

12 tait
I think it will be a no surprises team:

1. Hayden
2. Jaques
3. Ponting
4. Hussey
5. Clarke
6. Symonds
7. Gilchrist
8. Lee
9. Tait
10. Clark
11. MacGill

Yeah I for the life of me cant see how anyone would leave Shaun Tait out right now, he is arguably the most dangerous weapon Australia have all be it, he is a young untested gun in tests but with the likes of Lee, Clark and Mcgill, he is certian to be helping Australia continue their success story no doubt.

Possibly. I'm really not that excited about having Lee and Tait in the same Test lineup.

I would like to see Mitchell Johnson perform well at the start of the Shield comp. He's dropped a bit in the pecking order.

Nah, Clarke above Hussey for me, and Watson for Symonds.
Tried that once before and it didn't take. Given Hussey has done pretty well at 4, can't see why they'd demote him.

And while lots of people would like to see Watto in for Symonds, be very surprised if it happened - unless the contrast in Pura Cup form is undeniable or Symonds is not fit.

Eh, Clarke was batting ahead of Hussey in Ashes 06/07, Clarke at 4 and Hussey at 5.

Like Nufan above, I too would love to see Hilfenhaus debut shortly.
Hilfenhaus seems clearly to me the best prospect of the "big three" (Johnson and Tait the others of course) but does he really have the strongest case right now?

Surely Tait, given that ODI performance is routinely held in such high stead, is virtually a shoo-in unless he starts the Pura Cup summer absolutely horribly?

Given he's been pulled out of the Twenty20 WC and that spot has gone to Hilfenhaus, there's a fitness question over Tait which might give Ben or Johnson an opening.

Everyone will say that he doesn't move his feet enough against the swinging ball. I think he could get away with it given the fact he played a lot of 3 for Victoria,

He's the best right hand opening option IMO if that makes any difference in selecting a partner for Hayden.
Hmm I'm not all that sure about Hodge opening for exactly the reason you give, when he was dropped for the South Africa tour in 05/06 the whispers were that it was because they werent convinced of his technique against swining balls outside offstump, he's a nicker.
I know there have been many number 3's who've succesfully opened, but there are different types of first drop imo, the more compact ones who you could almost say are openers held back (Boon, Langer, Dravid)...and the more flamboyant less technically oriented ones who are like middle order players pushed up (Ponting, Brad Hodge). I think Hodge has less chance of success opening than Rogers, Jaques or Watson therefore he'd be behind all three for me, however were he to be picked at 5/6 I'd be perfectly happy with that.
