Key word "Worthless" yo. From Dermott Reeve, Chris Lewis, Mark Ealham (although he had his days), Adam & Ben Hollioake (although they looked good at times), Matthew Fleming, Ronnie Irani, Dougie Brown, Tim Bresnan.

Hopes is clearly a better ODI cricket than all of them.
Mark Ealham was an infinitely better ODI bowler than Hopes.

The only reason that Hopes is playing internationals at the moment SHOULD be because both Watson and Symonds are out. Once both come back (or if the latter comes back) then he should be straight out, there's just no room for a guy like him. A player that's more bits and pieces than Watson definitely shouldn't be on the international circuit.

Fully fit Australian ODI XI.

1. Shaun Marsh
2. Shane Watson
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Michael Clarke
5. Andrew Symonds
6. Michael Hussey
7. Brad Haddin
8. James Hopes
9. Mitchell Johnson
10. Brett Lee
11. Nathan Bracken

That is currently what it would be. When Watson is injured, I think Hopes should be promoted to open and Shaun Tait slotted into the team, having 3 genuine quicks (Tait, Johnson and Lee) with 2 bowlers who change up the pace (Bracken and Hopes) with Clarke and Symonds providing the spin if needed, that's a good team, but when Watson is fit, he has to be there.

Fully fit Australian ODI XI.

2. Shane Watson

10. Stuart Clark
11. Ben Hilfenhaus

Any international standard ODI squad must have 4 specialist bowlers, or an all rounder who can bowl at specialist capacity. Australia certainly don't have the latter in limited overs cricket even with Watson fully fit. Give Dave Warner an extended shot at the opening position until the tour of South Africa finishes, if he fails, then install Marsh/better option. Other alternatives include Haddin in for Warner at the top which opens a spot in the middle for Hussey, back to a Gilchristian formula.

ODI bowling is about control, Mitchell Johnson has none, therefore not in the team.

A fully fit Symonds should probably bat at 4 because Clarke at 4 is not that great, it's more a game saver than a Symonds game breaker.

Presuming everyone was fully fit as you stated, which I'm not sure Tait has ever actually been in his entire life, I'd take Tait ahead of Hopes in one day cricket at a pinch. Johnson at 8 with Lee at 9 is perfectly acceptable as far as batting goes and I think Tait offers a lot more with the ball when he's not broken.

Would have Clark, Siddle and McGain (just for starters) ahead of Hopes if Watson was fit.
I'd consider having Clark. I wouldn't have Siddle or McGain though unless they were just coming back from injury ahead of an important Test series (ie. now..).
