Smith and others had about half that.

Yep, Kallis was a fine player, but at the toughest of times Smith was simply better.

And coming back from getting smacked on the head by Archer. I have to admit that I'm very much one who doesn't take stats at face value alone, you have to consider how two obviously great players do in the toughest of circumstances, which you have set out very well. In another thread, I pointed out that Kallis was still very good against the highest class attacks he came up against, but he wasn't as good as some other players. He was relatively less strong against Australia and some of the better English pace attacks, particularly in England. Not terrible, but simply not in line with either his own record and that he was outperformed by quite a few contemporary great players.

Yeah he certainly missed a few tests towards the end. Can't remember which though.

Probably meant prime Archer.

Anderson was never prime vs Australia anyway.

I know I rip on him but in all seriousness it was probably a blessing for England that Anderson got injured and brought in Archer. Otherwise Smith plays all the tests.

iirc bowled a couple overs in the first test and that was it.

Great player, but not comparable imho.
