Both were larger than life cricketers who left their own respective imprints on the game.

Both made cricket a richer sport with their personalities, stories and contributions to the game.

Both contributing hugely in their team winning ODI WC's and key test series.

Who left the game with a bigger imprint?

Viv was naturally cool cat like a Samuel L Jackson.
Warne had natural charisma as well but always did work extra hard to stand out among the peers. I think Imran is also up there with these 2.

On the field - Viv
Off the field - Warne

Richards was more charismatic but aura-wise its Warne because he was from Australia, had the media backing and his appeal crossed outside cricket. The English love affair with Warne transformed him to an icon and larger-than-life figure.

Off field it's a no contest. It's more about how these players influenced their respective teams and players around them.

There have been quite a few batsmen who have matched the skill and audacity of Viv but there has been only one leg spinner in the history of this game like Warne.

Warne himself and none other.

Viv Richards’ off field influence was enormous. SA basically said they would pay him literally whatever he wanted to join a rebel tour, in the knowledge if he went they’d jag most of the first XI. He knocked them back, his team mates knew he knocked them back and the side essentially stayed together.

Warne’s off field influence was really playing poker, having *** scandals and in retirement rooting Liz Hurley.

so yeah, Warne for sure

Viv's become surprisingly docile with age (last twenty years really) but I doubt Warne's fire would've ever gone out. In hindsight it feels preordained he had to go early.

Nah, off-field Warne was simply more hyped up.

On the field, Viv wasn't just captivating in how he played, he had swag and also was physically intimidating, which Warne wasn't, at least not in the same way. Warne was great to watch but only English and SA batsmen actually feared him.

Viv Richards easily had more aura. There wasn't a great bowler of his era who didn't fear him. Ask Lillee, Hadlee, Imran etc. Imran once famously said that Viv was the only batsman who intimidated him. In that era, it was the bowler who generally intimidated the batsman.

Warne, the great bowler that he was, was surely outperformed by the best batsmen of his era, Lara and Tendulkar in head to head contests. In fact, it was he who had nightmares of them. That said, Warne did have the impact of making the team greater than it would have been without his presence. But then, same could be said about Viv.

A lot of Warne's aura comes from English and SA batsmen who felt weak in the knees against him. Subcontinent batsmen were more intimidated by McGrath.

Who matched Viv’s swag? Come on man.
Have only heard of it and so couldn't connect much with the swag of the great man.

I was speaking more on how there are so many great middle order batsmen like Sachin, Lara, Sobers, Smith etc. while there is no leg spinner even close to Warne.

If Kohli had continued on his 2016 form year after year, he actually could have been one matching that swag. Alas!

I think of someone as having an "aura" when they instantly command respect, and that describes Viv much better. Viv was the epitome of cool and Warne, uh, wasn't.

Who had the bigger psychological impact on their opponents? Surely it was Warne. Getting into a batsman's head might just be more powerful than getting into a bowler's head in general. But Warne only did it partly with his aura, a lot of it was just by being deliberately annoying.

I don't know about the aura factor, not having watched Viv.

But as far as the "Who left leaving a bigger impact on the game?" - is concerned, they should both be getting a zero given the West Indian batting and Australian leg spin didn't take long to turn to **** after their retirements.

I believe "the 4 letter word that starts with S" you are looking for there is ***y.

Viv probably had more of an aura than Warne but Warne was arguably the more significant as the master of leg spin. Off the field Warne’s career saw more notoriety.

As for the better test player, that’s a very hard one.
