Is this site in danger of closing ?

I post on another site which is based in the uk and their owners : moderators are warning it may close due to a change of law in the uk and the unaffordable costs it may bring

I’ve been encouraging some people from on there to join up to this site as there are a lot of cricket fans and this site has a layout virtually identical

I’m hoping this site won’t be affected by any changes as it gets me through the winter with the great cricket chat

No it is not in any danger of closing at all.
The law is "extra-territorial" so effects any site with UK users regardless of where it is based.

Whether or not the owner is worried about following it is of course a different matter.

I think the majority of sites will be hoping they fly under the radar, but it only takes one upset person to complain to Ofcom and then they will be aware of it - I suspect if the site has evidence of risk assessment documentation and a complaints process in place Ofcom will initially go easy on them, but if there is no evidence of that and the site is not UK based, they might well just order UK ISPs to block access to it....only time will tell.

From Ofcom:

The regulations are international in their reach and apply to online services that have links with the UK, regardless of where the provider of the service is based or registered.

Looks like we're going to have to ban all the UK users for the good of the site.

It's sad of course, but nobody is bigger than CW.

I haven't cleaned my teeth this morning or taken a shower to honour our fallen comrades.

Last time I turned ad blocker off on this site I saw an ad that was an optical illusion of a woman's Amir Jangoo

So in other words unenforceable to any site not locate in the U.K. Sounds like Trump level policy to be honest.

We fart in the general direction of U.K law makers.

Almost forgot, if we have members under 16 then they have to get off the site immediately, upcoming Aussie law, or face palming at its best.
