Among around 10000 international players and a fair few more on the FC level; 77 really doesn't seem too much to me.
It is if you're trying to classify the very best of the best. Make it 77 "greats" and about 30 ATGs is better.

Or if it's a semantic issue go with 77 ATGs and 30 "ATG+'s" or something

There are always subtiers among ATGs as well. You would definitely say Chappell belongs a rung below Sobers despite both being ATGs.

It seems people start out with a certain number in mind at the start of following the sport and want to keep it around that number, ignoring the large expansion of the game.

I mean for example we’ve had one third of test players in history debut since 2000.

Yeah so it's really individual semantics. I think we decided earlier in this thread that the question isn't really "is Ashwin an ATG" it's "how far does each person extend their definition of ATG and does it reach Ashwin"
