Bert Ironmonger, the Auistralian spinner from between the wars in my opinion. Apparently the horses that pulled the rollers at some grounds in those days got frisky as he came in to bat. Also someone once rang the ground to contact him and on being told that he was batting replied "I'll wait."
Courtney Walsh, Bruce Reid, Chris Martin and Jack Iverson are all contenders as well.
As for the best number 11 ever it is down to Richard Collinge, Bill Johnston (He once averaged 51 in an ashes series and also managed to average 102 on a tour of England), Ray Lindwall, Ian Johnson, Wilfred Rhodes and Bert Oldfield.
