Where exactly is this thread going?

@ Spark : The Aussie bowlers had their tails up at 38-2 with the dangerman dismissed... the Indian reply was essentially built around Tendulkar's knock. Follow-on wouldn't have been far off at all if had he failed. SL also had India in a similar situation in the 2nd Test of the previous series, however that was a real flatbed. Still runs are runs, and the scoreboard pressure of 450+ runs is not something to be underestimated IMO.
Also, Tendulkar scored at a SR of around 85 and batted divinely in the first session of third day of the last test. His batting in that session was really decisive in India putting up a big score and finally winning IMO.

Valid point.

I would have thought Tendy's 4th innings century in Chennai 08, killed all this talk about him being suspect/not that great in 4th innings chases.

If I was picking a team based on suitability for a fourth innings chase, Gavaskar would be the first name on it.

one innings?
Lara only had one great 4th innings batting performance @ Bridgetown 1999 & everyone always referred to him as very good in that situation.

Tendy after his failure to @ Chennai 99 to lead India to 4th innings victory, always had that choker tag in the 4th innnings around his neck. So that Chennai 08 innings banished that forever.

There should be a new rule in test cricket. India can substitute Sachin Tendulkar for Waterboy in 4th innings chases.

I mean Waterboy is obviously the superior player, what with a higher 4th inning average.

I think the BCCI should make the ICC invoke this change. No other team can substitute however. Only India.

Thilan Samaraweera and Mike Hussey's Test careers make for an interesting comparison. I'll leave it at that for now.
Interesting, haven't thought about it before much. But you've made a very interesting point. This point can be the root of a very fundamental debate, indeed.

Boot out Sehwag, IMO.

4th innings chase?

Yuvraj + Laxman + Tendulkar + Pujara + Ishant
