Is Collingwood good enough to be a regular Test batsman?

Is Collingwood good enough to be a Test part-timer?

Considering that the answer to that is no, the answer to this topic is fairly obvious about now. Yes, this is contrary to my initial comments, but hindsight is a beautiful thing. I'm still a fan of the guts he showed at the Oval though.

If Collingwood is a test batsman then i'm a monkey's uncle.
I wonder what your nephew Scaly Piscine thinks about him.

(because Hartlepool's in the north east, and they hang monkeys there, and Scaly Piscine's from that area, and he likes Collingwood, and the inference is that he must be a monkey, and you said that you were the uncle of a monkey, and I don't know what I'm talking about)

Its seems that most people beleive that Collingwood isn't good enough to play Test Cricket. Who do you guys beleive should replace him in the Test sqaud then. Cook, Joyce, Shah or Key...

Yes, any one of those four.

Let me clarify...

Captain Cook, James Joyce, The Shah of Iran or Key Lime Pie would be a much safer bet.

I was talking more about the next series, also is Prior good enough to play as a Test specialist batsmen...

No.

Just no,his bowling is useless and the only reason he's playing is because the selectors feel sorry for him,i just can't see what he brings to the side.He doesn't fit in with the current England squad.
I'm suprised he's performed better in ODIs than in test.

Yeah thats a fair call - he proved his ability to take crucial wickets in the Ashes and was instrumental in our win. Although I still do not consider him to be the most consistent or intelligent of bowlers, England certainly missed his reverse swing in the middle overs of Pakistan's second innings.

I like Colly a lot as a player, superb fielder, decent little dobbers in the shorter version, but I don't think he has sufficient ability to make a test batter. I haven't seen his dismissal yet ("highlights" on SS shortly I think) but it sounds a smeller.

He works & grafts, but when you look at the scoreboard all he's done is survive. Now the pitch of the 5th day may've altered dramatically, but The Oval for the fifth was an absolute road. Test batters need to do more than chip in with gutsy tens.

Hoping & praying Vaughany's fit for Sat.

I don't think anyone had yet claimed to dislike Collingwood or not rated him as an ODI player, and quite right too, but everyone has said he can't cut it at test level, and I agree. Alastair Cook must play if Vaughan isn't fit. He has faced Danish a lot in the nets at Chelmsford, annihilated MacGill during his 214 and is an allround class act, surely he must following Trescothick as opener when he retires.

Have you changed your opinion on Simon Jones? :p
In fairness I made a bad call here too - I thought he wasn't good enough in 2004 (though admittedly when I made the call he wasn't reverse swinging it round corners).

Personally, I can see within the next two years Cook and Trescothick being the opening pair, with Strauss moving down the order to 4. He seems like he'd fit in well there, he bats like a no4, and in two years' time will probably be our best batsman.
