IPL to be shifted outside India

That's true but India is probably the only place in the world where cricket every night for a whole month won't get stale. Can see a very disappointing edition coming up.

If the quality remains same as last year... don't see why it would be dissapointing.
Biased.Ind... makes a valid point.. good for all the youngsters playing in IPL :)
Exposure to different wickets.

It should be fairly well supported in SA, but only by the Indian community I imagine, ask most fans here about the IPL and you get blanked.. And quite right too, the whole thing is a circus and a farce
Yeah.

Big South African Indian/Pakistani population in Durban who would turn out and people in Cape Town love their sport and they also have a decent size subcontinent minority who will venture out to watch the cricket but aside from that, I can’t see many South Africans given the IPL much time especially as the South African contingent isn’t (currently) very big. It would make more sense if the IPL was moved to South Africa that good domestic pros were lined-up as the replacements for the non-appearing international cricketers.

England would be a good choice as the fans are a bit more 'worldly' but the weather early doors is going to be ****e and a number of the Indian guys won't be used to the weather or indeed the early season wickets.

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
the money at stake is too much for them to give it miss..and the best thing out of it is at least around 50-60 local players will get to tour to SA and play in all those famous ground which they might never have done
It also gives domestic players an even bigger platform to show their talent if it is held in RSA or England(batsmen). Some one like Aakash Chopra who has played league cricket in England benefits out of it though there are absolutely nil places in the Indian test team for him right now.

I can't decide whether it would be a success here in England or not. Last year it was shown on Setanta so it never got much exposure, had Sky had the rights to it I think more people would be aware of it. But, our two highest-profile cricketers are in it, as well as a few others, so that will get the youngsters interested, and as for the weather concerns - here in the north the weather in April & May has been better than the summer weather for the last two years, so I wouldn't bet on anything one way or the other there!

After reading through the thread, mind, South Africa seems a better bet

How many people here have been to Cape Town in late April/lateMay?

There are gale force winds and rain that comes down sideways.

For SA, Durban seems to be the only option.

Cant play on the South Coast due to the weather and by May the highveld will be bone dry and the grass will be dying.

Really, it is a bad time for both SA and England. UAE may be a better bet than both, though I doubt they have enough staduims to sread the tournament around and get decent crowds every day

if its in South Africa, we are 6-7 hours behind you
So like, 3am? Won't exactly be seeing much.

I was offered a opportunity to write reports of IPL matches for money, actually working for a website. But with it being so late at night, and reports expected within a couple of hours, it's not possible while I'm at school.

Really huge shame that it can't be in India, it won't be anything like as good in terms of atmosphere etc. and it will be a problem in terms of building support for the franchise. That said, if the security can't be done then it is the most responsible solution. I expect cancelling completely would be a complete disaster financially for the franchises.

I hope it's in England, I would definitely go to watch. Would be awesome. One of my huge regrets is that I've never seen Shane Warne play live.
