IPL Teams Scrapped

Huh, the only thing I liked was RR.

Weird goings on. Can you imagine the Premier League going "hmm, today I think I'll scrap Liverpool and West Ham" or some other teams?!
Lol.

Liverpool are having problems meeting the deadline of their bank repayments with RBS?

Can we please scrap them and get it over with?

This shocked me more because i;m guessing if they investigate more most franchises will have done dodgy dealings.

As f_o_s said, would've thought that they'd take actions against the owners of the team, rather than just disbanding the teams.

It's rather hard on their fans, to begin.

It isn't an investigation, nor are these proceedings. It's more of a cold war and has shades of a witch-hunt. Punjab and Rajasthan have been scrapped, while the highly suspect Kochi City is still allowed to operate, with just a notice. Not enough evidence has been shown to the public; we just see statements all over.

Moreover, there may be an excessive South Zone bias to the coming IPL. We already have Chennai and Bangalore, and a predominantly South (with a little bit of East) team for Hyderabad, and now, Kochi. North Zone, which contributes a lot more in terms of players, will have just one team, Delhi, while Central Zone won't have any team, with the catchment falling entirely under Delhi. West may be split between Mumbai and Pune, but Baroda and Saurashtra, the stronger teams, may align with Mumbai catchment. Even East have at least one team, from Kolkata, but Central, with UP providing many India players, won't find a place. That will leave just five teams- Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi and possibly Kolkata- competitive on Indian talent alone- hang on, we have auctions, don't we?

Contrary the popular belief here on CW and in Cricinfo's French Cut, the IPL will not die off because of international critizism or too much cricket or loss in audience or revenues, but if it is one way the IPL could die it's through stupid, pointless, misaligned, and ill advised crap like this. IPL will sooner implode on itself before losing an audience or falling to peer pressure.

The Indian government will do nothing, because reports suggest it is the government themselves that pressurized the BCCI to take these steps.

The two teams in question are under investigation by the government for money laundering and foreign exchange violations, and reportedly the government gave the BCCI the option of either getting rid of the two teams, or getting the entire IPL involved in the mess.

I wish people would wait for the facts to come out before voicing out their prejudices and preconceptions.

Why are people against this?

We don't even know whether the two teams were involved in the allegations stated. Why call the BCCI a corrupt organisation, when what they may have done is removed two franchises that were involved in money laundering?

Not saying the BCCI is not corrupt, but I don't see the problem with this move, provided the two teams are guilty.

Meanwhile there is intrigue over a series of SMSs sent to the existing franchise owners, ostensibly from BCCI secretary N Srinivasan, warning them to keep in line, or suffer the same fate as the expelled teams.

"As we have been saying, please align yourself with us. Or everyone will get the same taste of the medicine we have given today to RR and Kxip. Owners should not think they are above the Bcci," the first read. It was followed by a second: "You should be happy we allow you to participate. We know how to clip your wings. President and I have decided we will run the IPL the way we want to and after all its our property. You can either be a part of it or we can find a way for you to get out. We will throw Lalit Modi and anyone attached with him."

The Notice to the teams for the Scrapping was served by BCCI lawyer who is also Chennai Superkings lawyer as well as India Cements Lawyer and also a relative of Srinivasan.

N.Srinivasan is a very smooth operator who forced his brother out of the company(India Cements) in a very bad way too.
And Srinivasan is also the next BCCI president elect and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association at the moment with Srikkanth Chairman of selectors( as well as cheif brand ambassador of Chennai superkings at the same time),is ruling the BCCI will do so in the foreseeable future.

Haha, I hope that's not true.

In the past few days they would have wiped billions of dollars off the value of IPL. Who would want to take such investment risks now? It's just not worth it. They had the chance to clean everything up and perhaps they have to an extent but the way they've gone about it is atrocious.

TBH, sometimes I wonder if Sachin wasn't so humble and clean if they would have gone after him too for being too big, trying to "clip his wings."
