IPL 2015 Thread

It is Dhoni's hometown and a spinners' paradise. So, advantage to CSK on that, though Mccullum loss is a huge hit. Backing Raina and Dhoni to win it for CSK.
Think Raina has to fire, with Mc Cullum gone, Smith in poor form and Bangalore looking for once not over reliant on the big three, they need a big knock from him to have a chance.

DK has had some pretty epic IPL performances with the bat and gloves. He can bat anywhere and even if he's not scoring runs you would be hard pressed to find a better Indian gloveman. And yea Ranji form.

Coming back to the subject of auctions, surely past IPL performances is one of the safer ways to form the bulk of your team.

Whatever it takes!!!
Nope... If you were going by past IPL performances, Valthaty would have been a shout... You have to go by current form and by the time the next IPL rolls around, you are looking at form from, at best, a year ago..

Sarfaraz Khan looks like a serious talent. And playing matches on Kohli's team isn't going to hurt his chances in the future to represent India.

Valthaty is a bad example. If some one has been performing for 2-3 years, it gives a fair enough gauge. Of course it cannot be the only criteria.

Yeah, agree with Pratters here. It's a good basic indication but of course you have to look at other factors. Simmons is a good example of someone who isn't a big name but picked because of past performances. Certainly proving his worth atm.

Nehra ffs bloke has wound back the clock to those 18 minutes when he was kind of good
Zaheer's career has been 2-3 years of nicety and then becoming fat/unfit for cuple of years and then becoming nice again and so on. Nehra has had an even more skewed graph. Flashes of amazingness, and then an injury and a lot of mediocrity. On potential, I have always rated Nehra higher. Just wish we could develop a culture where we take better care of our fast bowlers.

Zaheer in 3 years took the team to number 1 and won a world cup. Obviously would rather a longer peak but he was the number 2 fast bowler in the world for a period. That was unheard of for Indian fast bowlers

Oh, yes. Career wise, Zaheer has achieved far more. If you were to rank them, you would put Zaheer ahead easily.

Ashish Nehra was a gun ODI bowler for about 25 minutes, Jono. Give him some credit.

Just like Ajit Agarkar got given a 20-minute head-start on ODI cricket and dominated until it caught up with him.

It's not about being a gun bowler for 20 minutes or not. Nehra was a fine bowler developing well but injuries got the better of him.

You can't get 288 wickets in ODIs just with a head start. He was actually pretty good with the white ball for a while. Remembered vividly for being hit around at the death alone but people forget the other things he managed to do. Above average ODI bowler imo.

Yeah Agarkar up front was genuine quality for a while there.

It is weird putting "Agarkar" and "genuine quality" in the same sentence, but the world does some strange things sometimes.

Agarkar was an ordinary first class bowler and as a result an ordinary test bowler. Was fine in ODIs. Afterwards in his career, he did yeoman's service for Mumbai as a first class bowler though, mind.
