1st ODI vs India
Playing XI: REMOVED, Heads, Dharan, Spark, Riley, Ikram, Winne, Corrin, Hing, Capone, Plegm
CW lost the toss and were put in to bat on what looked like a flat deck. After a steady start, the openers had accelerated to 50 after 10 overs before REMOVED fell lbw. The second wicket stand repeated this, CW on 102 after 20 as Heads was dismissed.
The innings was then built on a run-a-ball 84 from Dharan, as well as lower order hitting from Ikram and Winne, as CW reached 250 with six overs to go. However, the aggression lead to a lower-order collapse, and all 10 wickets were lost by the last over. CW were restricted to 263 all out.
Capone got the early wicket of Gambhir but was expensive in his opening spell, going for 25 off four overs. Winne replaced him and immediately broke through, getting Tendulkar with his first ball, and he made his first over a wicket maiden.
Virender Sehwag had hit 46 off 36 when he nicked Winné behind, and REMOVED took a spectacular diving catch at point to dismiss Laxman two balls later. The allrounder's figures read 4-2-10-3. Hing entered the fray with another maiden, and the pressure got to Kambli as he was run out. India had stumbled to 92/5 in the 21st over.
Corrin removed Deshpande soon after, and when Winné returned his first over back took two more scalps, reaching five wickets and removing the last chance of defeat. Kumble became Winné's sixth victim - at this point his figures were 6-16 - and Capone returned to take the final wicket, completing a crushing win.
CW won by 108 runs.
