Insane and mockery of Test cricket

Bangladeshi Test batsman and captain, Mohammed Ashreaful has scored 171 runs this year from 9 tests and 16 innings, at an average of 10.8. He has not had a single 50, but leads the country in number of ducks (4).

Isn't his continued selection an insult to Bangladeshi and Test cricket as a whole??

He has given match winning performances on many occasions. Moreover he is one of the technically better Bangladeshi batsman. What other options you have if you drop him? None.................
Bad patch is a part of the life of every cricketer. We can't deny from the talent he has got. Just support him.

Bangladesh continuing to play it is an insult to test cricket as a whole IMO.

Unfair comment imo,

Bangladesh has been pretty competitive at home atleast for the past year or two, wins might no be coming but they are certainly creating some flutters in the opposition dressing rooms.

...

Halle Berry could create some flutters in opposition dressing rooms. Their record is a joke, Ireland and Kenya could both have a better shot at the longer format (it's not like they could do much worse).

but we are not following trial and error where we give a country test status for 10 years and if they don't progress as much as we hope then we scrap their test status for someone else.

atm Bangladesh is ahead of both Kenya and Ireland in terms of progress and don't forget one of the main reason for Bangladesh been given test status was the general interest and love for the game the masses have which I don't think is available in Ireland or Kenya.

5 years back BD was a joke team both home and away currently they are a joke team only away so there progress cannot be denied.

Still a joke team i'm afraid. Will start to change my mind when they win a match.

Personally i don't think they should ever have been given test status. They weren't ready for it. What does it do for enthusiasm for the game to see their side stuffed match after match? The team shows no fight either. When they have a sniff of victory, once in a blue moon, their heads drop immediately on losing the initiative.

Agree with that but to scrap off their test status now will be an even bigger mistake I feel.

No disrespect to Bangladesh, but it's not like they're shuffling with a full deck when it comes to players, is it?

WRT to them versus Ireland; how many batsmen of the quality of Ed Joyce, Eoin Morgan or even William Porterfield have the Banglas produced? When fit I'd take Boyd Rankin ahead of most Bangladesh seamers too.

Would say that's very unfair too. Especially as they very nearly beat NZ recently in Bangladesh.
They frustrated me in that match because their spirit was so poor. Their batsmen would build a decent start then get bored because they weren't scoring 6 an over and hit themselves out. On the last two days, when they should have been favourites for victory, every time NZ had a partnership of over 20 their heads would drop and their bowling would be that of a team resigned to defeat. They went down without a fight. If Ireland or Kenya played 60 tests, they'd inevitably find themselves in a winning position at least once, and i can guarantee they wouldn't fold anywhere near as easily as Bangladesh did in that match. For me it didn't show them to be any more worthy of test cricket than all the innings defeats and three-day losses.

No, that's true and because Irish cricketers can't play test cricket they don't have Joyce and quite probably won't have Morgan for much longer either.

ECB should create an FC entity in Ireland immediately IMHO. Give Ireland a hand rather than cherry-pick their best players.

Do they have a captain of the standard of Trent Johnston? Would they have enough fight in them to bowl a team chasing 115 out to win a match?

TBF Botha & Johnston are both from the Tony Cascarino-school of Irishness, but the chaps I mentioned are the real Tony McCoy.
Yeah was tongue-in-cheek regarding Botha but Johnston>>>Ashraful in the same way that Tony Cascarino>>>George Weah's fake cousin who Graeme Sounness signed.
