Derek Underwood was a great bowler. Just not a spinner.

Jim Laker is certainly arguable I suppose. Keep in mind my comment about the recent decades as well :P
I think he retired about 45 years ago?

Keep trying boys!

"To describe Derek Underwood as a slow bowler, or simply a spinner is to give a false picture of a unique performer. Much of his bowling was delivered at a respectable medium pace, and always off a plodding run-up of ten yards or so. When conditions were right he would turn the ball extravagantly, but on good pitches, against good players, he would still take plentiful wickets through his unfailing accuracy. Batsmen, infuriated or entranced by the unhittable length and line firing at them with the remorseless regularity of a bowling machine, would very often commit cricketing suicide in their frustration. Yeah well, your spinners are tailenders who fill in lots of overs with just as much success.:D
Yes, and how much of this lack of success is down to the conditions they bowl in?

For one who is so crap, Giles has a pretty decent record in Asia (compare it with Warne, and he out-averages him in 2 of the 3 main spin-dominant countries!)

Thing is, Marc, as far as I know Giles has always been fit when he plays there, whereas when Warne plays in India, it is usually after injury or when injuried.

Without looking, I believe Croft has a better record in Asia.

So the fact he's done very well in turning conditions makes him fair game for criticism why exactly?

That's the point, not trying to compare him to one of the best spinners of all time, just showing he's nowhere near as bad as some people like to make out.

WA look good in the shorter version of the game. Made the final last year, Langer back in form, and not to mention SA had a most torrid season last year. Unmentionable!
I'm going WA all the way. I'll even go out on a limb and say WA have about a 50/50 for that bonus point too!

I want someone to belt the free hit!

Im actually going to go South Australia on this one,
the first 20 overs or so of the WA innings will be crucial , the Redback's have a good enough pace attack (Cleary , Rofe , Tait) to get a few early , and if they can get rid of Hussey , Goodwin , Langer , without to much damage being done then they will likely triumph , thats a big 'if' but I dont really think Rogers is the sort of player who is going to tear you apart on his own , he's better in a supporting role in ING matches , & If they can get North , Worthington in their relatively early then they Warriors will struggle. Also Andy Flower has been rubbish so far this year so I reckon he'll be hungry for a score.
Hopefully Fitzy & Blewett cary their Pura form into this clash aswell.

Im sticking with WA. SA simply haven't improved enough from last year to be a threat to WA or any team besides Tassie.

South Australia 7/262(50 overs) , A.Flower 74(73) , M.Cosgrove 50(75) , K.Harvey 3-39(10).

The Redback's not looking so bad at lunch8D

And Flower hit the sign as well to bag $50,000 , before being caught by his former Zimbabwe team-mate Murray Goodwin:lol:

Gee Mark Higgs sure knows how to put on weight , this time last year he was just a little plump , however this season he looks genuinely fat , and its showing aswell , during that last over he bowled he looked absolutely stuffed.:lol:

Yeah well done WA for a great win! (My tipping is so great)

Goodwin was superb, the man is in the form of his life, and I can only say that Zimbabwe are in desperate need of him. Also, did you see his two catches.:cool2: :O

Did you see Husseys?!:O
All 3 were amazing, I just rate Husseys higher because of the timing...

Like I said in the other thread, I loved Husseys reverse sweeps... he didnt stuff one up either hehe.
Goodwin was so composed. Your regular 80 off 60-odd balls would be smashing them all over the place, but he didnt. He managed to not take too many risks, and yet score so fast.

I liked Flowers reverse sweeps the best purely because he is the best player of the shot in the world. Husseys catch was excellent, yeah.:)

Lets give some credit where its due , Paul Rofe bowled superbly , that ball to Campbell was unplayable & its not the first timehe's done that.

Not unless a) Mugabe gets out of power before he steps foot in that country;
b) he gets paid properly;
c) they forgive and forget his comments about Zimbabwean selections in reference to coloured players

Yeah i know, i said they need him, not he will.
