India's best spinner

No love for Lalchand Rajput?

He's our own man and had never lost anything, bar that ODI series against Australia and a Test series, against, guess who, Australia- yes, that awful series. The best man in a post-Kirsten scenario. Better than Amarnath.
Nope. Doesn't seem the brightest and most articulate bloke when he is talking tbh. And isn't he involved with some state cricket association?

Prefer a foreign coach in any case who does not get involved with all the regional politics and powerplay in the board.
Wanted Stephen Fleming before we got Fletcher.

Much worse. Chappell had some understanding of the team and what was right. This bloke knows nothing.
Let's give him time tbf. Don't think he'll be anywhere near as bad as Chappell.

But don't think he will be as good as Kirsten though:(

He's good with youngsters and fringe players, and seems smarter than the other domestic options. Rajput doesn't lose much, so he's got something right.

Having a domestic coach isn't terrible. Having a foreign coach isn't the greatest thing either. Under John Wright, India couldn't win much, and were at the bottom of the table in Tests, then ODIs. The Greg Chappell experience went horribly wrong later on- and it was under the Cricket Manager era the Indians won the Test series in England, then the ODI series against Australia- both significant achievements. A domestic coach will be useful in finding decent reserves, which I'm not sure foreign coaches have done so well- Chappell tried hard, but failed, and the replacements under Kirsten had to stay, as the ones to replace eventually moved on.

As for regional politics, not everyone is likely to be affected. It seems rampant, with players from a western desert sub-state associaton getting special preference, even when TN stalwart Srikkanth leads the panel, and TN has several good players.

I'd prefer a former India player who's just retired. Ganguly in some time will be a good choice.

We didn't give Chappell time, because the team was in bad shape. Chappell had good intentions, but the methods were wrong. I'm not sure about Fletcher- anybody who makes such theories shouldn't be anywhere near an Indian team.

Expect a cold war between Fletcher and the BCCI/Selectors, like the Chappell-Vengsarkar conflict.

western desert sub-state associaton
Which one?

Don't think any one association is getting any too obvious favors at the moment. They just make sure they balance it out(and spread out the selecctions) too much sometimes tbh(to keep everyone happy) and in the process leave out some good players too.

Has anyone read Duncan's tweet on Indian spinners? He thinks Indians' tendency to select spinners on guile and skill is a terrible thing that will not work in the long run. He thinks all spinners should be like Ashley Giles, unskilled, bringing little to the team apart from work ethic and a neat haircut.

Good lord! Is this our national team's coach?
You are aware that's a parody of Fletcher's constant backing of Ashley Giles, as written by Australian blogger Jarrod Kimber, right?

Do you have a quote of his exact tweet?

Im actually a big fan of Powar, though its unfortunate that hes fallen away in the last couple of seasons. If you ask me, hes the sort of bowler who makes finger spin an art and is willing to toss the ball up. Not really a Pragyan Ojha fan and as Ive said before Mishra just doesnt strike me as someone who uses the drift/flight effectively in his bowling.
