Unlucky to have to face Pujara right after he hit platinum form.
Pujara was extremely lucky. The umpire was as blind as a bat when he nicked behind, and he survived a few other close calls;
the horrible Bangalore home crowd actually booed him when he got to his fifty.
Credit to him, he just completely ignored them, and played immaculately from then on to get to his century.

Didn't the nicking behind happen in the first innings, and he got dismissed soon after that anyway?

It definitely happened in the second innings. It happened in the first innings too, I'm told.

Just checked, cricbuzz reported both.

First innings: 22.6 Mithun to Pujara, no run, Karnataka were celebrating and they are stunned that the umpire hasn't raised the finger, Pujara went nowhere there. Cracker of a delivery, shortened his length and got the ball to shape away late, caught Pujara's glove on its way. Sharath took it with glee, but the umpire cut-shorts Karnataka's celebrations. That's a howler - clear deflection and the umpire failed to spot it

Second innings: 24.3 Vinay Kumar to Pujara, no run, big appeal, this time for a caught-behind. Kumar sprints in celebration only for the umpire to deny it. Oh, tell you what! There was a noise as the ball went past the bat and the umpire is unmoved. Karnataka players go up in chorus. They all are confident, they can't believe it. Pujara stands still and lives to fight another day. Another umpiring error and this could prove pivotal. Full and just held its line outside off, Pujara with a tentative poke and gets a faint nick. Everyone heard it in the Karnataka camp, there was a clear deflection and it's the same umpire - Saiyed Khalid - who comes under the scanner once again

The umpire called stumps right on the dot though, so it’s forgiveable. Chalk it down to the stress of umpiring.

Is Rahane still in contention for that middle order spot? I don't rate his ODI record at all, but if India were 12/2 on a swinging pitch facing someone like Boult or Rabada, I'd have him ahead of Jadhav/Rayudu/Shankar/Pandey etc. But he'd be a complete liability in pretty much every other situation.

Given his recent form, he'd probably be a liability in this situation as well.

IND needs an opener in Sehwag/ Gilchrist/ Jayasuriya mould . Rohit/ Dhawan waste entire PP overs by their slow batting . IND will never score 350 + if these guys open unless Rohit goes big which has very low probability. Shaw should open against OZ in ODI series.

Top order is the least of India's problems in ODIs.

Shaw fits that mould.

Irani Trophy happening. It takes place between the Ranji Trophy winners (Vidarbha this year who beat ChePu's Saurashtra recently) and a Rest of India team.

Rest of India's batting looks like an India-A line-up - Mayank Agarwal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari. Bowling is much less impressive.

ul-Haq's the only decent quick in this game from those that I've seen. Vidarbha could've done with Umesh.
