i feel like dravid or any of the coaching staff cant do much. For heavens sake the indian team are meant to be professionals- they dont need babysitting. not sure how much of a value add dravid or his staff are. batting strategies, bowling to an extent are probably going to be his inputs that make sense. boosting morale or doing a war cry is worth nothing. if the team lacks discipline in all aspects and terribly at that consistently its mostly a lack of talent on the players part. if you look close enough some players on our team are nothing less than jokers.

I just dont think any of the decisions since Ganguly took over BCCI have been made for the right reasons, and we are paying the price for it.
I really think we need to be a bit patient. We are judging way too early. We have an excellent pool of bowlers to choose from going forward(with good bench strength thanks to the opportunities that the youngsters have got). It was unfortunate that both Bumrah and Harshal got injured. We'll have better combinations to choose from going forward.

Yeah but also the A program has stalled.

I actually have a theory on why we seem to suck in T20I tournaments inspite of the IPL, which, inspite of all the hype and hate, is in fact the best franchise T20 competition in the world. The problem is the fact that none of our players play T20 in other countries. If BCCI wants to make them IPL exclusive, its fine, but then we should have a much more active A team T20 program and we do not. :(

These guys are all good for Indian conditions and stuff but esp. the ones who are not regulars in other formats are hardly tested in different wickets and countries otherwise and they are just not able to take that next step up. More regular A team T20 tours would help us really understand the proper talented ones from those who are pretty much conditions specialists.

The Dravid-Rohit Sharma combo has not done well so far, has it?
The only good change so far is the aggressive approach to T20 batting.

Random shuffling of players up and down the order while preparing for the tournament was stupid.

Injuries haven’t helped and selection wise we’re pretty much right about 9-10 of 11 players in most games so I can’t fault them too much there.

I know @honestbharani has a hate boner for this Dravid takeover but I think he’s just been ~meh

Ganguly is a dickhead tho

I just think he was at his best managing the A team, the academy and the U19s, where the learning and shaping of the player is far more important. He can be unnecessarily experimental otherwise, as we have seen from his runs as India captain and as RCB captain/coach and RR captain/coach.

Also, if what I have said about Dravid-Rohit is a hate boner, then everything others here say about Virat-Shastri is what, peak of the pyramid hate boner?

Agree.

But sometimes it's better to try it out and figure out things instead of simply writing something off. If Hooda would have done well lower down the order, he would have been an automatic pick coz India needs that 6th bowling option with Hardik being injury prone and just in case one of our main bowlers get some kind of niggle or something.

Also, Pant is still not clear about how he wants to go about in white ball cricket(especially in the middle overs), keeping him up the order for a while might have been a good idea. He would have been a pain in the ass with the fielders in.

I guess injuries and overall schedule has forced the team changes, but the current management is clear that all players will get a longer rope and won't be just binned with a couple of bad games. This will surely give great returns in the long run.

All I know is it's always preferable to have your XI settled and coming together as a team a few games in front of a big tournament. In a country as large and cricket-crazy as India, you're always going to have a big pool of potentials to choose from; where's the end to experimenting with combinations then? Sharma and Dravid can pose and be nonchalant all they like, they're just putting lipstick on a pig at this stage. Defeats don't inspire confidence, period.

Agreed. Let's hope they stick with the preferred 11 to 13 for the upcoming games against Aus and RSA.

IPL is indeed really fun, I think @ankitj does enjoy it quite a bit too, which team is your favorite?
