How good was he when he first came on to the scene though. Seemed like India just pulled a superstar keeper-batsman out of nowhere

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Dhoni is a legend of the game, even if he has hung around for too long (which, tbf, most players do if they get the choice and India's culture of hero worship encourages such behaviour).

They should permanently ban India from cricket and award Pakistan reparations like crowning them victors of this and the next 7 World cups without even having to play IMO. Do you agree semi?

India should certainly be banned until it sorts out its illegal bookmakers' influence on cricket. it's all well and good to discipline and ban the players from everywhere who fall prey to them, but no one is prepared to call India out on the fact that it's the at the centre of illegal betting on the game. Cricket it too great a sport to be sullied by one of its nations basically bank rolling an illegal blight on the game. The ban should be in place until there is sufficient evidence to the requisite standard that the illegal bookmaker issue has been properly addressed by the Indian govt and the BCCI.

In the meantime, there should be a Royal Commission called into England-India match from the other day, with the power to compel witnesses to attend and give evidence, and with the power to seize the Indian players' phones and computer records. The whole thing stinks like a dead cat in the middle of the road.

That would be funny primarily for the bankruptcies it causes in the other cricket boards without the television revenues.

I mean I know it’s trolling but if it were to actually happen, BCCI would just expand domestic leagues to coincide with other nations major tournaments and poach all the players just to spite the other boards.

What's the point of that? It's that rampant over there, the IPL is basically cricket's WWE as it stands.

On a serious note, the UK is heavily complicit with all this.

Flutter, which owns betfair and a couple of other gambling platforms has all these ‘affiliates’ set up in dodge countries with lax gambling laws. You can sign up to them, undergo next to no KYC, and place bets on their “powered by betfair” platform.

They then match the bet on betfair, collect the payout and transfer it back to you. Betfair takes a small cut.

Great for Indians.

Dhoni should bat at 8 as the specialist keeper and part-time captain. He is there just for morale right now.
