Gambhir said in his PC today that Rohit's availablity is still unsure for the first. 10 days to go for the first test and we don't know who the captain, opener is still

He won't make it unless child birth happens max by this weekend. Even then he might stay back for 4-5 days after birth. So 1st test participation looks quite unlikely as of now.

I first thought this meant the Indian Team Run-Rate thread which would make sense too considering how fixated they seem with #intent these days.

Whatever it takes!!!
I am struggling to think when was the last time I had so few expectations or even hope from an Indian side. It was low before the NZ series anyways but right now, the only hope I even have is that we dont lose 5-0 and even that is a stretch as I fully expect it to be 5-0.

So Rahul might be back in place of Rohit for the 1st test. Can't decide how I feel about it.

In terms of the BGT probably the 2011/14 tours. Even then though the result was horrible I actually had more hope before the tour (misplaced hope obviously). Maybe the 1999 tour to Aus before that

Shami bowled for Bengal today in the Ranji game vs MP. Apparently he still wasn't close to full fitness and people were saying that it looked like his left ankle was injured. Anyway, he sprayed it around a bit and ended today with figures of 0/34 in 10 overs bowled.
Don't think he is going to play a part in the BGT. Now I have to sit through Rahul opening the batting and Akashdeep opening the bowling with Siraj/Prasidh to follow

We'll probably pull off one win somewhere along the way if not two. Aussie batting's in worse shape than on the last two tours so it squares things somewhat. Also think our sad lot genuinely raises their game a few notches against them so there's that to hope for.

Ok I'll take my optimism and just walk on outta here.

But Australian tail is soooo much better than India's. Cummins bats at 9! While India has bunnies. The difference in lower order alone will cost India a match or two.

Anything short of Bumrah turning into 86 Hadlee and we are getting humiliated

Bumrah doesn't do Hadlees though it would be nice to see a 30 wicket series from him. He can be his usual ***y, effective but ultimately somewhat underwhelming self (sheer wickets tally-wise i.e.) and do just fine if, and it's a big, highly unlikely if, our batsmen pull their considerable weight, literally and figuratively. Not even asking for much, just get 250-300 on board more often than not.

I think it's more likely Bumrah getting a 30+ wkt series than our batsmen getting 300 consistently. A 200 vs 200 is our best chance

I actually am quite cautiously optimistic here. Australian batting isn't looking particularly nice atm. If Bumrah, Pant and most ominously Kohli clicks, I think we can infact win this. Certainly have better oDDS than the last one.

Styles (and conditions) make fights, as the saying goes. Aus conditions naturally favor the likes of Kohli and Gill. If those two along with Pant can be the engine room, we're in with a shout.

I understand this is the randirona thread but that can wait until the first whipping is delivered.
