Firstly, that "choo choo" story is a vicious mistruth, a myth, and was denied by Chris Cairns himself.

Secondly - are you serious?? You honestly think that's part of the game?

Call me shocked.
Hi shocked. How's it going?

I agree with SS somewhat; it is hard to know when you have crossed the line, 'because they keep moving the little sucker'
The Cairns incident may've been denied, but it is clearly the basis for the occasion in Malcolm Knox's Adult Book (admittedly a novel) where the Aussie fielders taunt the mixed-race Saffie batter with "neenawneenaw" sounds in the full knowledge that his parents had recently been killed in a car crash.

It doesn't make anyone who does it a great human being, but I'd imagine it goes on. I think it's partly why Australia were so keen on the stump mics being turned off.

I don't mean to single Australia out, BTW, simply that this incident was allegedly perpetrated by them.

This made me laugh, I went to the test in question and it seemed like the least competitive, most laid back, non entity of all time.. I suspect one of the English girls said "Damn" or something, at which point it all kicked off

In an interview with the Times of India, Raj slammed England, claiming they were "foul-mouthed" and "speak rot." She added: "They keep saying nasty things about us. Even their former players, who were part of the commentary team, criticised us on air. It hurts to hear them say things
It hurt them so much that they apparently spurned the moral high ground and gave it back to England with c words.

Did you have the chance to read my book review of Adult Book, BB?

No, I didn't know it'd been posted. Will do tho. :)

EDIT: just read it. I see you came to the same conclusion as I did! Pretty on the money with the review, I thought. The Aussie cricketer as a species doesn't come out of the book too well IHMO; aside from the sledging & the sharp practice Knox also descibes the routine infidelities with a fair degree of verisimilitude. The incident with the young cricket tragic is pretty awful.

Yes I left that out, because of the 'Family Site'. I wonder how true it all is, as you would imagine the author with his newspaper work would know his stuff, and what goes on behind the scenes.

Have you read his first novel? I wonder if there is any cricket in it?

I haven't, but I am strongly considering it after AB. A very good read I thought. What I've read of reviews of his first it seems to be a reworking of The Great Gatsby, so doubt cricket features.

Currently reading On and Off The Field by Ed Smith.

When are you going to write a review for us? :)

I wasn't sure if it was true. Thats not the point anyway.

I think its part of the game.
No it's not. Calling someone's mom something maybe a normal thing for certain people but it isn't for certain other people... As long as the stuff that is said is limited to on field things and about only that player (and not his family), then may be it is ok. But even then, it is one thing to have some good natured banter and another thing to call someone names. And by sledging, I would say it denotes the latter and therefore, I don't think it is part of the game at all.

What about sister comments?

ZZ doesn't like them!

Also, that comment might have been the difference between winning and losing a world cup. And it wasn't shocking at all, or all that bad. If I thought it would mean winning a test match which might otherwise be lost...I'm going to do that, and more. You don't have a right not to be offended. You are a professional - learn to deal with it. And I'm sure you'll be giving it to me when its my turn in the middle.

ZZ acted like a 12 year old. "I'd rather have your sister" I mean really, it's quite a compliment from Materazzi.
