Marshall could bat and should have been closer to Hadlee, just didn't apply himself the same way and tbh had less occasions that required the serious match saving knocks
Was a lot closer to Hadlee with the bat in county cricket iirc.

from the ACS cricket archive (was not allowed to post the links):

Marshall's stats for Hampshire:

210 matches
5847 runs at 25.20, 5 100s, 26 50s, 76 catches
826 wickets at 18.64, 45 5WI, 7 10WM

Hadlee's stats for Notts:

148 matches
5854 runs at 38.76, 11 100s, 29 50s, 105 catches
622 wickets at 14.51, 38 5WI, 5 10WM

The green tops at Notts would have helped Hadlee's bowling average but not his batting average.

This is what stood out for me: Marshall and Hadlee scored almost exactly the same number of runs for their counties, 5847 versus 5854, Hadlee winning by just 7 runs!!!

Imran is better than Donald. Hadlee doesnt have a 30 average at all. This is just distorting things to make a closer comparison.
Donald > Imran
Hadlee > Mcgrath
Hadlee Better Fielder

Hadlee played for a weaker team, that affected his numbers, i always consider him as a 30 avg batsman. He averaged 31+ for 12 years anyway.

Why don't you apply those standards for Imran? He averages 45 plus for 12 years. And I never heard of bumping up an average just because someone plays for a weaker team.

Donald aint a better bowler than Imran.

Akram averaged 21 for 10 years.
What is the point of having better fielders if they dont collectively saves 10 runs in an innings ? ( actually they can save 100 runs or more just by a great catch ).

Imran's batting numbers are the result of not outs and playing as specialist batsman 😴

Donald stats are better than Imran's even though Donald played in a more batting friendly era and he missed few years in his 20s due to obvious reasons.
With a proper start, he would have been Steyn league IMO.

Donald played on greentops in the best pace bowling era. If you're just going to make up stuff best we don't debate.

Coulda shoulda woulda

Thats on him for not applying himself. A certain West Indies batsman could probably have been a clear #2 behind Bradman if he’d applied himself the way his Indian contemporary did.

They both could bat, Hadlee obviously better and Maco just didn't take it as seriously. But alas, can only go based on what they did.
But Hadlee definely better with the bat.

Never said it wasn't.
