Imran Khan averaged below 30 in every country he played. His worst average is in Australia where he took 45 wickets @28 in 13 matches. Murali failed horribly in Australia.

Still going for murali.
Murali also failed in India.

Also Imran didn't even bowl in several of those Aussie games. He played as a bat.

So Murali was a better bowler then cos Imran couldn’t bowl.
You mean getting injured removes points? You ever mention that for Steyn?

It's not Imran's fault that he was good enough as a cricketer that if he couldn't bowl he could still justify being in the team.

I do think Murali's record is substantial and great enough to put him ahead as the better bowler.

Not 100% sure where I place Murali tbh, especially in relation to Steyn and Warne, but yeah, ahead of Imran
Would like to know your logic since you're so particular on away records, and Murali averages 27 (28 without minnows) away and is quite bad in the strongest countries.

To me it is quite straightforward. Any ATG pacer who is tested in various countries and without a serious gap in his record is by default better than even the greatest of spinners, simply based on the limitations inherent in the latter.

That excludes Imran, Ambrose and Steyn but not someone like Lillee. Trying to pigeonhole Warne and Murali between them seems arbitrary to me.

The spinner limitations include inability to conquer elite players on spin and reduced efficiency on 1st day pitches, the most critical times for setting up games.

I will grant that Warne and Murali have cases based on sheer longevity of output though compared to pacers.

Wait, Murali is not ahead of Warne, despite Warne averaging more than 25 overall (and not ATG) according to your definition.

A bit confused about this.

Murali probably trumps everyone in terms of longevity and sustained excellence.

But elite fast bowlers are more valuable in terms of the side's chances of winning
Longevity only works if you can replicate baseline worldclass performance. They can't though.
