2 things:I was a big fan of Steyn but we tend to look back and remember his highlights rather than all the ordinary spells he bowled when he was taken apart by KP, Clarke, Warner, and others. Yes, he had an insane strikerate, but also a very high ER. Meaning, if he wasnt striking, he would often be a liability and give the advantage to the opposition. Nothing is more demoralizing for a team than seeing your lead bowler being taken to the cleaners.
Compare that to other ATGs like Ambrose, Imran and McGrath, who if they werent producing matchwinning spells would at least keep the pressure on the opposition. It is worth waiting a few more deliveries to take a wicket if you are keeping the batsman under your thumb.
1. The few worldclass bowling peers of his bowling peak (Philander, Anderson and Ryan Harris) managed much better ERs.2 things:
1. The high(er) ER is a consequence of era and pitches
2. So he gave away 3.x runs an over. He took a wicket next over of that dude…backed up his low average and insane strike rate.
Nah more so that his MO was "IDGAF if you drive me I'll pitch it up". I have immense respect for it. **** those boring corridor length bowlers.2 things:

Did you see my comment above?Steyn being taken apart was a relatively rare occurrence that its basically a non-factor. subshakerz talks about it like it happened every couple of games or something. Highly overstated.
It's not like guys like Marshall or Imran were corridor bowlers, but they werent torn apart like Steyn.Nah more so that his MO was "IDGAF if you drive me I'll pitch it up". I have immense respect for it. **** those boring corridor length bowlers.
This can't be true when Steyn took his wickets at a strike rate of 10 deliveries faster than Imran.Good topic.
I go for Imran. More consistent, more dominant, and more destructive.
Destructiveness in terms of running through a side on his lonesome. This can't be true when Steyn took his wickets at a strike rate of 10 deliveries faster than Imran.
What if his peers were Marshall and Hadlee?I’ll go with Steyn, personally. Possibly a little biased due to actually watching him, but also he seemed more dominant compared to his peers than Imran.
He would be competing for top spot than settling at 3.What if his peers were Marshall and Hadlee?
Having said that Imran, Wasim and Waqar were not immune from taken apart. Aravinda de Silva himself taken apart all above three at various times. There is no ATG bowler that had been never taken apart.Steyn being taken apart was a relatively rare occurrence that its basically a non-factor. subshakerz talks about it like it happened every couple of games or something.
