Are you saying that Laxman was better than Dravid as a test batter??
He was not by numbers. But in terms of talent. Ian Chappell has all praise for Laxman’s capabilities but he has to compromise for No 6 most of the times. Laxman could have been a Ricky Ponting for India in Tests if he continued to open at No 3

Wi has to be a squad since we have less resources than Asia. If I had to choose an Asian XI I'd go:

Saeed
Sunil
Dravid
Sachin
Sanga
Pant+
Imran*
Ash
Wasim
Bumrah
Murali

Vs WI

Hunte
Greenidge
Headley
Viv*
Lara
Sobers
Dujon+
Marshall
Garner
Holding
Ambrose

For games in Asia:

Greenidge
Fredricks
Viv*
Kallicharran
Lloyd
Sobers
Walcott+
Marshall
Holding
Gibbs
Walsh
lol. So Windies gets to swap out over half their team depending on conditions but the other team has to make do with their 11. Sounds fair.

I think for an overall XI (not country specific):

Sunny
Sehwag
Dravid
Tendulkar
Miandad
Sanga +
Shakib
Imran - c
Wasim
Bumrah/Waqar
Murali

Makes the most sense.

You have genuine batting until no.8, Murali with Shakib as high quality spin backup, three pacers.

Though frankly part of me wants to put Imran at 7 and have Murali and Kumble instead.
honestly have Dravid open (amazing against swing), Sangakkara at 3 and Younis at 6

Btw I’m one of the bigger Shakib stans here I believe, and he doesn’t belong in an SC XI imo.

Also specifically if you are picking an SC XI to play against a Windies XI a pace allrounder would likely be better imo. You already have a massive advantage in spin.

Also Rizwan > Pant as a keeper and as a bat.

Alternate XI based on your input

Sunny
Dravid
Sanga
Tendulkar
Miandad
Rizwan/Pant +
Imran - c
Kapil
Wasim
Bumrah/Waqar
Murali

I like this more. We resolve the Sanga issue with a proper keeper. You have extra batting depth.

The only problem is one spinner for SC.

I almost would have Kapil for outside SC and Jadeja for inside.

Pant has hundreds and series winning knocks in aus eng and sa before turning 25. Post accident not much but pre accident pant was freak and looked like he would cross or equal Gilchrist as atg wk- batsmen
Rizwan has plenty of key knocks in those places too. He is also more consistent than Pant tho Pant is more brilliant.

Who is a better keeper?

Rizwan is better keeper but only place rizwan is better as of now is nz and there too pant played on absolute spicy pitches while rizwan played pitches somewhat better for batting. Also pant is game changer like Gilchrist and can win you matches also can be erratic with performances while rizwan is more of steady batsmen like sangakkara who might not win matches on his own but is super consistent in setting up the match
