Two top tier quicks
Hard to argue against all 3.Donald. Multiple great series home and away but unlike Imran, Donald was actually atg away. Plus statistically, Donald had a better average, Sr and wpm than Imran.
The only issue with Garner really is the lack of 10 fors and he just didn't play enough tests relative to someone like Ambrose or McGrath. But as a pure bowler ie taking wickets at a miserly rate and reasonable sr, few are were better than Joel. Greater maybe but not better.Hard to argue against all 3.
As I said in the Donald / Lillee comp, they're basically equal in my mind, and that's the same here.
Think I mentioned this before, the bowlers I feared.
Very briefly Waqar, Donald and McWarne. I remember Wasim giving Hayes issues and having to change up his technique, but Donald made Lara look like he was scared at times.
I have Imran, Donald and Lillee in the same category. I've managed to hype Trueman up in my head, and Garner is always there, but not sure if in the same grouping as those 3. But guess that's my top 10 right there.
None of the three are top 3 quality, and lack that one special something imo to jump into the next tier, but devastating and deserving to be here.
I'm glad that at least I was able to encourage people to take a second look at White Lightning, he really was destructive and something special, and previously criminally under rated.
Believe it or not, as a bowler I think Garner was better just not greater if that makes any sense. Garner took wickets out of the equation completely and wasn't afraid to pitch the ball up. As Boycott, once said, no one hit Joel, not even Viv.Yea Garner was basically Ambrose with 150 less wickets
Vote for him to tie it upTough choice but going with Donald because I tried to bowl like him but instead I was bowling 120 kmph pies.
By ATG standards perhaps Imran was below par in Aus and Ind. otherwise atleast in Aus, he was reasonably good.Donald was below par in Australia, fair. Imran was below par in Australia and India... India was arguably a bigger batting challenge than the West Indies in India, and the natural and bigger rival.
But who are we comparing them to?By ATG standards perhaps Imran was below par in Aus and Ind. otherwise atleast in Aus, he was reasonably good.
It’s just that for Aus, Imran has the context of last tour, where he bowled like half the overs Wasim did, and the WSC performances that push his case. In Ind, no such context. Donald and Imran are close in Aus, I’d take Imran in the end cause of his WSC performances. And in my next post, I have said Donald was good vs Aus. And I agree by ATG standards, none of them were brilliant in AusBut who are we comparing them to?
And if Donald was below par in Australia, as quoted above, what's the difference? You also previously said Imran was below par in India, he averaged the same in India and Australia....
He was, for the group he's in and the players he's being compared to. Below par in India and Australia.
