Can I get to the pitch of the ball and drive without any shuffling? Is the front-foot movement enough?
Yeah, it should be. If you find that you're not to the pitch of the ball, you either aren't moving your front foot enough, or the ball simply isn't there to drive. Obviously not every ball is drivable - if you aren't getting to the pitch, you could possibly just be a bit more selective about which balls you decide to drive. Standing out of your crease is fine, but I don't really think walking down the pitch as the bowler comes in is a good idea for an opening batsman if that is indeed what you're talking about.
