he certainly wasnt accurate in the first ODI, he bowled extremely poorly in fact, and got away with it because he had the conditions to his favour.
Gah...

He was the most economical Pakistani bowler in the series against India though.
had he played in the first few games of the series, you can almost guarantee that it would have been one of the worst.

its the truth, while rana was occasionally bowling jaffers(with periods of inaccuracy), rao was extremely mediocre at the other end, bowling wide outside the off stump or on leg stump.

In this first match where he bowled 'extremely poorly' he conceeded only 34 off his first nine overs! And he bowled nine in-a-row, at the beginning of the innings!

If you go to the link: http://aus.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/...RECARDS/PAK_IND_ODI5_15APR2005_BBB-COMMS.html

...you`ll see that indeed he had many good deliveries, hence the repeated phrases of 'good length delivery outside the off stump, swinging away, well left' and 'good length delivery' and 'another good delivery'. Not to mention his last delivery in which Arshad dropped an easy chance... and it went for four!

No I can't.

The fact is, he did not play those games and who are you to state how he would have performed if he did?

Why, he is tooextracool! A great warrior who has fought arch-nemesis Richard for many years, and toiled away, striving for perfection...

9-34-0 isnt exactly brilliant in those conditions, considering that he bowled all 9 of them within the first 20, when the ball was doing absolutely everything. no surprise that both rana and razzaq had much better figures at the same time too. nor was it too surprising when he came on for his last over and got hammered as the pitch flattened out either.
with regard to the good length deliveries, most of them were far too wide of off stump, hence the leaving from the indian players.and for the rest of the over he was bowling far too short and down leg side.

and the fact that almost every pakistan bowler out performed him in his 2nd ODI means nothing does it?
and had he bowled in the death liked the rest of the bowlers did in the first ODI, do you believe that his figures wouldnt have been worse? not like 10-46-0 in seamer friendly conditions isnt anything other than mediocre either.

You're exactly right. It means nothing.

Are you saying that because Lara scored 196 in the second Test against Australia he would have scored as much if not more in the first simply because the other batsmen prospered? I think you give yourself a lot more credit than is deserved.

no because its a completely different story.
im just pointing out that he wasnt anything brilliant in either of the 2 games, in fact he was extremely poor in the first one. theres no way anyone can predict whether he would have bowled better or worse in the rest of the series, but had he bowled as poorly as he did in those 2 games, he would have been slaughtered in the first few games of the series. hence to say something like he was the most economical bowler amongst the pakistan bowlers means nothing, because he managed to come in and bowl in more favorable conditions.

I cannot believe that this thread of March 2004 was truly referring to Rao Iftikhar Anjum.
A wholly average bowler and how on Earth he ever got near being selected for ODIs is totally beyond me.
