How many tests would Lyon have played

Only way Lyon gets more than 10 games is with Jadeja injured tbh. 75+ votes seem extremely hopeful.

Yeah its hard to tell though, considering Jadeja’s only played at the SCG and MCG.

Plus I mean Australia’s batting is already ridiculous at home, they might find the batting advantage superfluous. I think it would depend also on who had established themselves in the team first. (assuming in this case it would play out normally that would be Lyon)
Given Jadeja is a superb player of spin, he would be a regular in tours to SC as a batsman. He is anyway good with ball. He is most likely to get more tests.

I don't think Jadeja would be very good at the team song, so can't see him playing at all really.

Lyon would've been binned instantly if Jadeja was playing for Australia tbh. Far less valuable of a player.
This. I could still see Lyon playing Tests when they wanted 2 spinners but he might not have had the longevity around the side if he was in and out as others might have been tested out here and there as 2nd spinner.

The only other factor is that Lyon would probably be a better bowler in Australian conditions but I feel like Jadeja would have fixed that pretty quickly if he was playing in Australia

He’d still be with the previous missus that he cheated on after becoming famous.

Australia dropped Lyon for Ashton Agar briefly in the 2013 Ashes, which was right after Jadeja's breakthrough in Tests vs Australia that year. So they clearly valued the idea of having a SLA bowling allrounder ahead of him at that point, even one much less accomplished than Jadeja. So if Jadeja were available for Australia around that time it's pretty likely Lyon wouldn't have got a chance at the career he did.

Aus were also very keen to play a spinning allrounder alongside 4 seamers even when they didn't really have the personnel for it in the early 2010s (North, early career Smith, etc) so that's probably the plan they'd have gone with if they did have Jadeja suited to play #7 and bowl spin. In the mid 2010s Australia would have probably enjoyed the justification for picking all of Starc, Johnson (then Cummins), Hazlewood and Pattinson/Siddle in tests.

Jadeja probably would have become more of a balanced allrounder and less of a bowler with a fairly low WPM at home. It's kinda detrimental to both Jadeja and Lyon's careers as bowlers.

Also Ashwin would've played a lot more away tests.
