My rating would be,

1 INDIA!
2 Aus
In the Subcontinent, quite possibly, but never on fast, bouncy Aussie/NZ/SA/WI/English (to an extent) pitches - we'll see come the World Cup.
3 SA
4 SL
5 NZ
6 WI
Pak/Eng/Zimb & Bang, not much to talk about them, they are crap
Reminder - Pakistan beat Australia in Australia not so long ago. England tied 3-3 in India and ran NZ close in NZ as well as comfortably beating SL. Zimbabwe have a good recent record against India. WI are in a rut. You've got rose-tinted glasses on...

The way I see it (including arbitary ratings out of 100 compared to the Aussies):

Australia 100
South Africa 91
India 90
Sri Lanka 86
New Zealand 76
England 74
Pakistan 71 (current form)
West Indies 65
Zimbabwe 57
Kenya 45
Bangladesh 28

But there would be vast differences in rankings on different pitches.

Pakistan will certainly improve its performance as senior players are back, it was just a matter of time and i hope the things will start to change for pakistan.

Nath doesn't deserve to be in the World cup Squad?? and you want him to be replaced by none other than a new commer?? Man, this is World cup we are talking about not Hong kong sixes event where every tom dick and harry can play.

Players like Pathan and Balaji are talated BUT in a tour like WC one needs experianced players and i would go for Srinath any day over others.

As for Ajit and Nehra, i have put them in the 15 man squad, but my first choice bowlers would be Nath/Khan/Bhajji and Kumble.

Lack of a fifth bowler is India's real weakness there.

Having said that, England are suffering from 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th bowlers if you believe some people!

Well, they are trying out J.P Yadav against the Windies. If he comes good, the fifth bowler dilemna might be over for India.

In which case, they may be worth a punt for the WC each way - but then again, there's a lot of luck involved, and I probably won't bet on the WC at all.

What about the indian lack of professional wicket keeping, will Rahul Dravid be able to keep in the fast and bouncy pitches of South Africa??

Good point. That might prove to be a crucial factor.

Very few balls go through to the keeper in ODIs, I think he will give as much with the bat on balance as he will cost by mis-keeping.

Marc - you believe some people, we've got a first bowler weakness too...

Yeah, your best bowler is Gough and he hasn't been fully fit for nearly a year now.

...and I am not trying to undermine Dravid's value to the team or suggesting
that he will definitely fail as a 'keeper.

I don't think he'll definitely fail, but law of averages dictates he must be due a shocker soon.

Yes, the possibility is definitely there. With reports coming in that he wants to be rested as a 'keeper for the series with the Windies, it looks like the dual pressure of keeping and batting is getting to him.

I think keeping to the fast bowlers in favourable conditions, specially the Indian variety of fast bowlers, is a much easier prospect then keeping to the spinners in spin friendly conditions.Keeping to Kumble and Harbhajan in SA shouldn't be as big a problem as it is in the sub-continent and the rest Dravid can already manage.

I have been saying all along that India should go into onedayers with 5 bowlers rather than 4.Its good to see India finally changing their tactics and going into the present series with 5 bowlers. If Yadev can chip in with useful runs and bowls tidely then that can end India's search for an allrounder!

Dravid's keeping can prove to be costly, India will most probably include Patel in their 15 man squad for the WC, if Dravid fails to perform his duty well behind the wkts then Patel can always come in the team as a keeper!

Its not that simple, India have been looking for a quality all-rounder for far too long..this guy Yadav needs to prove some consistency.

Thats true, its about to be seen how he performs in international matches, hopefully he will do well, has been the best allrounder at domestic level

I'm trying to work out the logic in the current batting line up for this first ODI - surely Agarkar isn't going to bat at 3 in the World Cup?

If Sachin isn't there(which will not happen in the WC, hopefully) then someone may have to take the role of a pinch hitter if the openers fail before the first fifteen overs are finished.
