Oh great. Another shiny new veneer placed on top of the same old game, with a fresh new database and flashy gimmicks that mask the real shortcomings. Hopefully some other software house who is actually interested in spending a little bit of time and money develops a far superior game to the ICC series. Frankly, I'd rather play Oli Norwell's game than this one...
Well don't buy it then!

Even if it was just a data update, there's a lot to be said for playing games with accurate data. I'm sure one of the reasons you lot play this game (I haven't since ICC99ish), is for its realism. The like of EA and Codies have tried to make a different type of game which from playing the demos are good but do not deliver the realism I want (personal view). Therefore just to be able to play with 2005 players justifies £14.99 (Play.com) for me, but can understand if others expect more for their money.

When I think about the hundreds of hours I've spent playing the likes of FM05 (I buy each version each year), the initial outlay is minimal, especially when I take into account the nights I've stayed home playing (saddo, eh?), rather than going out down the pub and spending money. Contrast this with paying £30 for an EA Games product, that I played 10 hours max, it doesn't compare.

If you like this type of game and £15 isn't a serious dent in your pocket, then you'll buy it. I'm grateful they've done what they have. But at the end of the day, everyone has their point of view.

My only hope is that Rockingham have noted this and intend on making one (or making it easy for fans to make one) for their upcoming game.
Although the chances of an editor making it into Cricket Coach are unlikely at this stage of development, it is something we are considering for the future. However the database files are easily editable and it wouldn't take much for someone to write an editor.

It wouldn't take much for someone to also write an editor to alter the tours and other international fixtures too.

Guys you ain't allowed to be at all crictical of any decision made, you have to accept them all as the developers totally gave up their lives for you 8-)

But in all seriousness while I don't agree with the way Dan and Marc won't accept any crictism off the series, we are lucky to have it. However if the online game remains discontinued after the release of this 2005, then most of their arguments as to why they won't tell us how to build an editor, let alone make one, pretty much go out the window.

Glenn, I'd love to help out here. If you're interested, get in touch. I have two weeks holiday in the middle of Norfolk away from civilisation coming up starting Sunday, so plenty of time to work on creating an editor if you'd like me to get something together.

I'll also find another wild bird to christen it after...

Cool, nice to see developers taking an interest in what fans say... Very few companies make official editors, as it can lead to all kinds of complaints that are far beyond the companies control (ie fans who mess up, people represented in the game complaining about what some fan has done)..... But some, youself included it seems, are helpful in aiding 'unofficial' editors.... not only does it give them more time to make the game and improve it, but it covers their own back n all :)

Cheers for the reply, its sounding (and looking) like a damn good game, cant wait!

2 weeks holiday the only wild bird you'll be finding will probably be called Chantelle or Stacy * :)

The main reason ICC has no official editor is not down to the developers. When I came onboard in 2000 I pushed for an editor to be developed and included. Chris the lead developer is also of the same opinion. We would have had to have some protection for the on-line game but the editor was not authorised. Most developers are quite happy for editors to be included as it can extened the life of the game and even take it in to new directions they had not thought of. Publishers on the other hand (and especially for games with seasonal data) don't tend to like editors for exactly the same reasons.

Some may remember on the Magpie thread I actually went through and worked out all the errors and missing bits in the Magpie implementation with the idea that I could give it to Neil so Magpie would be better. Empire did not give permission for that document to be distributed.

I sincerely hope Cricket Coach can come with an easily worked out database format but if they do get a publisher one of the requirements might be to make it difficult to create an editor.

Daniel.

So does any one know if the simulation of other countries besides England's first class games has been fixed, thus allowing long term international play? If it has and the other features have been implemented good this could finally be the game it should always have been.

Heh, what can you say, sums the whole editor debate up well and truely... Developers are fans of the game, they want what we want, and would love to do everything and more...

Publishers are interested in the money, want it out quickly, and dont want anything hitting potential follow on sales

OK call me stupid (go on) but WTF is the Kolpak ruling? I keep hearing it and have it kind of worked out but conformation...?

International 12th Man
Kolpak rulings involve players like Grant and Andrew Flower, who have left their home country. They can now play for County teams without being listed as an overseas player.
Quite handy!

On the subject of the seemingly minor updates to ICC2005...

We are lucky that Dan and the other developers have given their time freely to try and keep the ICC series going...If all cricket lovers went out and bought the game we may convince the publishers to provide time and funds for a NEW ICC game.

Thanks Dan (and others), I appreciate the effort, I'm sure the game will be worth it.
