An easy victory to start the World Cup. I was aiming to win the toss and bat first, try and give the top order some form. Ended up losing the toss and Taylor ripped the top order of UAE apart.
2nd Group Match v Pakistan
Pakistan: 8/202 (Bravo 3/38, Hinds 2/37)
West Indies: 174 (Gayle 56, Graham 49)
Pakistan won by 28 runs
Frustrating game to lose after the bowlers did such a good job restricting Pakistan. At one stage the West Indies were 1/97, and then Kaneria and Mushtaq ran riot over my middle and lower order.
Need to win the last game against Zimbabwe to progress through to the Super Eight.
3rd Group Match v Zimbabwe

West Indies won by 8 wickets.
Was a closer game than it looks. West Indies only won with 8 balls to spare, and needed a massive surge from Graham late in the game to take us home.
Through to the Super Eights (already exceeded my Bangladesh achievements). Already a game down due to the loss to Pakistan in the group stages.
1st Super 8 v New Zealand

New Zealand won by 3 wickets.
A very tight game with New Zealand winning in the last over. Michael Papps was the leader for New Zealand with 97 runs.
2nd Super 8 v Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka 9/171 (Bravo 3/23, Taylor 3/30)
West Indies 4/173 (Lara 70, Gayle 29)
West Indies won by 6 wickets.
Lara has proved his worth against Sri Lanka again. An impressive victory on a very tough wicket for batting. Bravo and Taylor have been fantastic throughout the World Cup opening the bowling. It has helped cover the lack of threat posed by Jaggernauth and Benn.
3rd Super 8 v South Africa
South Africa 7/249 (Bravo 3/47, Taylor 2/42)

West Indies won by 8 wickets.
Wow, the West Indies are now into the top four on the Super Eight table. Gayle was sublime today, and he was well supported by all the other batsmen.

West Indies won by 5 wickets.
Another tough team to face, another victory for West Indies. No bowler exceeded 5 an over against the imposing Indian lineup, and Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Baugh and Hinds pulled off a fantastic chase after collapsing to 3/22.
5th Super 8 v Australia
West Indies 2/345 (Gayle 171, Lara 111)

West Indies won by 82 runs
Greatest victory of my career. Gayle carried his bat in making 171 and has been in remarkable form during the World Cup. Australia made a good chase and had the required run-rate down near 5 before Bravo cleaned up the tail.
6th ODI v England

England 233 (Taylor 3/46, Jaggernauth 2/43)
West Indies won by 55 runs.
Another brilliant century by Gayle and his opening partner in Lara. We had locked up a semi-final place by this stage, but it is a great result to enter the next game with all batsman firing.
Semi-final time against New Zealand (remember they beat West Indies in the first game of the Super Eight). I will be making my first team change of the World Cup. Benn is dropped for Cunningham.

West Indies are through to the 2007 World Cup Final. A complete team performance with all bowlers applying the brakes (Cunningham 10 overs, 28 runs for 1 wicket was fantastic on World Cup debut). Gayle smashed his third century of the World Cup and the West Indies won with 9 balls left.

The game looked over after South Africa reached 0/163. Smith and Puttick looked unbeatable. South Africa soon collapse to 4/190 thanks to Hinds and Bravo and never recovered to post only 248.
A total of 248 was winnable, but could prove tricky if early wickets fall. Gayle and Lara made 45 for the first wicket before Graham took over the match. He has proven to be my greatest find, and is such an asset due to his natural aggression. Chanderpaul and Baugh provided the finishing touches and the West Indies won with three overs to spare.

Gayle was incredible. Struck form at the right moment and just piled on the runs. Lara was poor in the first four or five games of the World Cup so it was critical that Gayle bats well.
Baugh was the unsung hero of the World Cup for me. I believe he was at the end in two, maybe three victories and was unreal at chasing down 70 runs off 10 over type scenarios.
Good luck to everyone else. You need a massive amount of luck to win this.

I'm still going with this - just got up to the start of the World Cup now.
I surprisingly beat Australia 4-3 in the 7-match ODI series just before the World Cup, so I'm going in with some confidence. I actually led the series 4-1 at one point, but tried some fringe players in the dead rubbers - the fringe players were ****.
Virgil Browne has been very good - averaging 39.62 at a strike rate of 84 from 35 ODIs.
Wicketkeeping remains the big issue. No matter who I pick, that player is the weak link in the side. I'm using a guy called Jackson at the moment - for team balance, I need a keeper who can open, and this guy is apparently the best of that lot. He's averaging 23 in ODIs, which is better than anyone else I've used but still not much good.
