I watch cricket and never look at scorecards while watching the match because they are misleading...I even watch those players of old ages playing whom I can't watch...I have watched all matches since cricket was born (needless to say, without looking at scorecards ever)...

mate, this is not a contest.

Neither is anyone here telling that everyone who place importance to stats have no idea about the game. It is just some good natured ribbing and fun at each other, tats all. The types who think they know it all juz because of stats while they never even care to watch the game have been extremely rare here at CW.. And thankfully so, one feels. :)

And I am not one of them...I never claim stats let one know it all...But they, if analyzed properly, let you know all about performances (not about skill, talent, first-chance average etc. though)

of course, never implied you were anywhere. Have read your posts long enough now to know that. :)

That is why I explained it here again. Don't take this as an attack on you or anyone of your ilk. We are referring to some other types, hopefully the likes we wont see much of here. :)

Yes, not talking of CW only, I have seen some stat-buffs who always take stats on face value, don't know how to analyze them properly and misrepresent them to prove a wrong point...I feel it's because of stat-buffs like those idiots who don't have much idea about the subject, the rest of us often get victimized...

I love a player ,so statistics never tells the whole story .

I hate a player ,so statistics tells the whole story .

I enjoy ''selective statistics and uses it according to suit my debate ''.At the end i must win

People supposedly "love" and "hate" players despite giving virtually no indication of such, it'd just be more convenient to think they did as then you could pretend to the assembled company that this was the reason they were trying to make them seem less good than you think they are.

September 2001 TBH.

And it'd really depend on whether they'd played before said date or not too, and if so how they'd gone.
Piffle mate.

You mean to tell me that if Bradman incarnate started playing now, you'd rate guys fromt he 90s ahead of him just because he didn't play then?

Jnr.

First Class Debutant
I hate X as a human being, despite not knowing the player personally, and I will denounce him at every opportunity, whilst ignoring X's good points!

Seems a common occurrence on CW.

Someone who averaged 130 or so (as I reckon Bradman would have an excellent chance of doing had he debuted around September 2001) would be a rather different case.

I'm amazed how Richard arrives at some figures in hypothetical situations. On the other thread he said Blythe would have averaged 23 if he played more...On another thread he said MacGill would have averaged 35 if he played more (I think he meant if he took 1000 wickets)...Now he says Bradman would have averaged 130 if he debuted after 2001...Why 130? Why not 142.26? Or what about 119.53?....Seriously Richard, how you arrive at those figures, that we, lesses mortals (sigh), can't?

By "about" I obviously mean "to within a few significant figures".

I'm not saying any of these figures would be exact.

The Wheel is Forever
I am a CW moron !!....
want to know why ?

1. I think Tendulkar is highly over rated ....
becuase by saying so I dont have to stretch much to prove why Lara (or my other presiding deity) is the next thing to God almighty.

2. I think Lara is highly over rated....
because it somehow refutes the claim of those who claim that Tendulkar is.

3. I think Murali is a cheat....
because it clearly states the case for Warne being the greatest spinner on the planet.

4. I think Warne is no where near being the best leg spinner of all times....
because that somehow justifies the claim of Murali in the all time world team.

Q5. I think those who say Shoaib should cut down his run up or run in slowly building up speed have air between their ears ....
because to me it sounds like they are criticising Shoaib, his bowling, his attitude, his being a Pakistani, maybe even his parentage.

Q6. I think those who disagree with me on anything dont know anything about the game....
because I say so !!

you are all invited to add to this list :)
Q1. Hawkeye once got a prediction wrong
Because that means its less accurate than umpires, who never get anything wrong.

TBH, given HawkEye is nothing more than a predictor, we can never know whether anything it predicts is right or wrong. :)
