Actually, it's the inverse as there will be less expectation and even more talk of transition period.think if hussey retire now there will be even more pressure on ponting to do so if Australia continue to struggle under him

There's a thread on PC, BF as well.Either MacGill or one of the SBS producers reads CW and has seen the thread, or they got the same rumour from another source - just said that they heard rumours Huss will retire at theend of the series.
They're all debateable, tbh; only supposition on my part. However I doubt a drawn home series would've been the way SRW would've chose to go out if it was truly his decision & Hogg's retirement seemed to coincide pretty much exactly with MacGill's return to fitness.I don't think Hogg or Waugh were. ME Waugh was "retirodropped".
I really don't think Australia would have had any problems at all dropping Hogg given it wouldn't have been the first time (or even anything lower than the sixth time if you include ODIs) and he'd never perform well in Tests anyway. I actually think they would have taken him to the West Indies as the second spinner had he not retired as well - I really think he'd just had enough of it. I agree with you about Waugh though. They're all debateable, tbh; only supposition on my part. As I say tho, just me guessing.
As I said it's all just guess work on my part. It's just the timing looked odd with Hogg, he'd been the #1 limited overs spinner since Warne gave it away, finally gets a go in tests, is largely arse, MacGill's due back and will almost certainly be first choice, then Hogg gives it all away.I really don't think Australia would have had any problems at all dropping Hogg given it wouldn't have been the first time (or even anything lower than the sixth time if you include ODIs) and he'd never perform well in Tests anyway. Ay, it'd be best for Australia if Don Bradman had been able to play forever. What would be convenient for the team won't generally have any bearing on where a player is personally in terms of appettite or form. Ideally, Warne and Hayden would still be suitable to lead the team as well.
Yeah, that's the part that worries me. Honestly can't think OTTOMH of any that were cooked-up. Mind, you don't tend to remember the rumours that didn't come to pass, whereas you do recall those which did.pff, where's the fun in that?
Retirement rumours are usually true, for the most part.
