How strong is Australia's Second ATG XI?

Fuller Pilch

Hall of Fame Member
Yeah I reckon SA might beat the 2nd XI (especially if AB gets picked as keeper)

Smith (c)
Richards
Kallis
G Pollock
D Norse
ABDV (wk)
Faulkner
Procter/S Pollock
Tayfield
Steyn
Donald/Rabada/Adcock

6-man bowling attack (4 seamers/2 spinners) and a strong top 8.

my Austrailia XI is clear for me , second XI?

1. Matthew Hayden ( Victor Trumper )
2. Justin Langer ( Arthur Morris )
3. Ricky Ponting ( Donald Bradman )
4. Greg Chappel ( Steven Smith )
5. Niel Harvey ( Steve Waugh )
6. Ian Healy ( Alan Border )
7. Alan Davidson ( Adam Gilchrist )
8. Ray Lindwall ( Keith Miller )
9. Bill O Reilly ( Shane Warne )
10. Patrick Cummins ( Glenn McGrath )
11. Claire Grimmet ( Dennis Lillee )

two great spinners and three very great pacers , you can argue the bowling attack even has a lot more quantity then first XI though Batting is way weaker.

I'll say it easily beats Newzealand XI , Sri Lanka XI will fall very easkly as well , Pakistan XI would lose too though it would be really close , India would fail due to inferior bowling.

with south africa its tricky as the spinners help Australia a lot in that one

England and windies are def winning against this side though.

A WI second XI could potentially challenge the Australia second XI.

Haynes
Gayle/Fredericks

Walcott
Worrell - c
Lloyd/Chanders
Dujon
Garner/Holding
Roberts
Walsh
Croft/Bishop or Ramadhin as spinner

Chanders can't even make the second XI with a roster of 7 batsmen?

Hell to the no. Great servant and all but even now I'd pick Kallicharan and Richie then maybe Chanders. I'm joking but who would make room for shiv: not the 3 Ws. Not Rohan or Clive.

Garner over Holding any day..
Well yeah but imo, in any XI you're going to need a leader (Marshall), a line and length to keep runs tight and maintain the pressure (Curtly) then you'd need just a speed merchant who can pry wickets through sheer pace: Holding. Garner is very similar to Curtly though Garner tended to bowl a tad fuller. And well for "balance" I picked a spinner.

Not sure out and out pace bowler would consistently fare well in today’s era of protection and bigger bats. Plus batsman usually play pace better now because they can practice against the bowling machines.

On the other hand, bowler who can seam/ swing it will always have a chance of success. Garner would do well in any era due to unerring accuracy with awkward bounce, ability to seam the ball and also mix it up with yorkers. He would be batsman’s nightmare.
