How many temporary bans...

There should be an appeals court here, and a severity appeal should be made IMO.
Excellent idea and in these human rights conscious days it should be the way to go but I fear in truth it would just exacerbate the problem

I am beginning to get the impression that for some a ban is akin to a badge of honour

Needs a question-mark TBH.

Anyway that could be asked for a good few members down the years sadly, given myself, Hingeh, sledger and several others have been banned down the years and some very poor ones haven't been either at all or not perminantly.
You deserved it though. However your inclusion in that list is dubious.

I think the moderators got everything spot on this time.

Hopefully this secures James' vote in my campaign to have "O'Diren" put on the banned words filter.

I'd almost enjoy presenting the 50+ closed threads, the duplicate account(s), abuse, baiting that sledger has provided over five years.

I thought it was a wonderfully restrained reply Craig...I found saying 'That's your opinion and you're entitled to it' to someone calling you a '****ing idiot' pretty funny.
He knew ol' Permy'd be getting his due before too long and knew that to reply restrainedly would only help his case whereas to not do would not, and if he didn't then the ban might be escaped.

Well, I think its a bit harsh to say that he doesn't like the guy when, frankly, the punishment fits the crime. Its not as if vic has said anything that's open for debate, sledger has done all those things and has often boasted about doing it!

Its disappointing when decent members get banned, but there are forum rules and you've got to expect to abide by them. After all, most of us contribute nothing other than glib, sometimes snide comments to this forum so why should we be treated any differently from "the great unwashed" who are yet to "contribute" 1,000 posts?

The great irony in all of this is that sledger is bound to be laughing heartily (and if he isn't, I'll laugh for him) about the introspection and hand-wringing that his ban has brought. Its even more hypocritical from me to help build this unwarranted hype. He wasn't a bad guy, but **** I'd expect to get a six month ban for all he did and if he wasn't banned then it would be carte blanche for other people to post ever increasing amounts of tripe. More than they already post, anyway.

We're all guests here at a place organised and kept going by a small band of people who have a thankless task. If they get 90% of the decisions correct by the majority view then they're bloody lucky.

That's why I rolled my eyes.

Like I say, it was a thorwaway comment, just a joke, and yeah, sledger has done plenty of thsoe things, and been banned for them before.

I haven't commented at any point on my thoughts on sledger's ban, I generally don't on mod decisions as they are their job not mine, and I get on very well with both James & Zac.

All that being said, I have seen a few posts expressing how glad people are that sledger has been banned, and it's a pile of dog****, he's been banned, so why talk **** about him now. There are plenty of people round here who are friends with sledger and I find it pretty disgusting to see posters talking about how much better CW will be without him how glad they are, how they wish he was banned for longer etc etc etc. I'm not going to report posts where this happens as it would be petty of me, but IMO they are comments which shouldn't be made.

sledger's banning is the mods decision & right, talking **** about him while he's not here doesn't seem quite right, though I guess it's happened with other posters, probably been guilty of it myself (BLE for example, and your good self with bond21, everyone with Rodgie).

But let's be honest, sledger is more the class clown than the school bully, yeah he does indeed break rules all the time but I can't think of too many posters that he actually upset or abused, so just let him serve his ban without having **** talked about him, IMO

Nah, he's always hugely disappointed whenever he gets a ban of any length TBH. As most people who've tried to leave have found-out, CW is very easily missed.
