I'm pretty sure he's spot on tbh. England are just too soft to be no.1 for too long, SA will forever be #2-3, India suck balls and Pakistan will be nothing once Misbah retires.

New Zealand the only ones with a chance to be number 1 imo.

You know despite the phenomenal performances over the last 1 month or so, I still am not convinced that this current Australian team is back to the winning ways of the Invincibles. I really don't rate Clarke as a great batsman. Ponting will play maximum another 2 years. Hussey will not last too long.

Australia still don't have a proper number 3. Warner and Cowan are doing good but I see them failing against a quality seam attack. Put Anderson or Steyn on a green top and it will be 15/2.

The bowling on the other hand, with Pattinson and Cummins and Lyon is really looking good.

That scenario will unfold in about 10% of all matches they play.
Australia play majority of their games at home where there is reasonable help for fast bowelrs and seamers...and then they have the All Important Ashes coming up in England in 2013.

LOL I don't think you have an optimistic bone in your body.
You know its not just me...I think its something you develop if you follow Pakistan cricket all your life.

I remember the world cup match against Australia where Australia were bowled out for 176. My friends and I kept saying how we won't be able to relax until Pakistan crosses 150.

And Pakistan at one point were cruising and then Younis, Misbah and Afridi fell in quick succession.

Not being optimistic is kind of a self defence mechanism.

LOL I don't think any realistic person would fancy Pakistan's chances in Australia or England
I think Australia would beat Pakistan here, but the return series would depend almost exclusively on how well Ponting, Clarke and Hussey played the Pakistani spinners. If they failed I think we would lose quite heavily.

I'm not sure how Hussey would do, honestly. It depends on whether he decided to be positive, if he did then he'd probably be closer to SL than SA in terms of form. Ponting would be consistent if not oustanding, has reworked himself into a very competent player of spin on slow pitches in the last few years. As for Clarke... he still has a few glaring weaknesses in his game, but spin on any surface is not one of them. At all. I honestly think that there are situations where you just shouldn't bother bowling spin against him at all, you'll just get spanked.

Can see Ponting struggling a bit particularly against Ajmal when it is turning. Though he may have become a better player of spin now, he has never been a good reader of spin from the hand. Has even in the recent past looked a bit iffy against the likes of Chawla and Ashwin's wrong one's too. Plus there is still a question mark on his form, despite whatever he might have done against the Indian attack.

Clarke is so odd. Most of the times he'll look brilliant against spin moving his feet to get to the pitch of the ball and all, but sometimes he'll move around too much resulting in getting himelf in a tight spot and getting out softly. But i guess, with his form right now he is likely to do pretty well.
Hussey i think will probably take a couple of innings to get used to the bowlers/conditions and then do pretty well in his usual style.

But in anycase relying on these 3 so heavily would be a big problem, plus reversing it can't see Lyon doing as well as Monty or Swann even.

NZ already are number 1, tbh.

Ponting owned Murali though. Played him superbly.

He seems to struggle most with the spinners who got bounce like Harby and Kumble.

Wouldn say he "owned" him , but yeah he played him well enough. But it is only partly relevant to the whole picture and in anycase the pitches in UAE are a bit different to both Srilankan or Australian pitches.
